To start on the East end of the trail, navigate to Starbucks on Windermere. The trail is immediately behind Starbucks. There is an Earth Fare and Staples shopping center which is where we parked. The trail is about 8 miles. It is paved for the first approx 2 miles and then is hard-pack after that. We felt it was well-marked... More

A great way to get healthy with some hidden treasures. Go as far as you can or stop and head back home, either way you are breathing fresh air and moving!! If Starbucks is a motivation, there are two locations you can visit near the path. One off 17 and the other (a little further) by earth fare.

This is a nicely shaded, smooth and well maintained trail that crosses some bridges and goes into a beautiful wooded area. There are several areas near marsh and water. This trail starts with about 2 or 3 miles of black pavement that goes through the backs of neighborhoods, and crosses streets. This first part is smooth enough for wheelchairs or... More

There are always people around and avoided the dodgier neighboorhoods. Well maintained, with minimal interruptions by road.

The trail is an old railroad line from Folly Rd that goes all the way to the foot of the bridge to Johns Island. It is great for biking, walking, and running. It is 10 miles one way, but if you wanted to see as much as you can you could Uber back. It has paved sections and hard compacted... More

I have been on the West Ashley greenway a couple of times. While I like it as a place to get some exercise, it is a bit desolate in areas and the scenery is limited. I wish they could do more to enhance it.

This bike path is a little difficult to find, even for a local like myself, so be sure to consult a map of the area before attempting the ride. The most interesting thing to me about this path was the diversity of the scenery as it progressed. At one side of Ashley River road the path is very comforting and... More

My wife and I attempted to bike the West Ashley Greenway during our visit to Charleston. We were disappointed and would recommend avoiding it. The trail was under heavy construction and was impassible after mile 3. We were looking forward to a 10 mile ride, but were forced to turn around due to the constructions. It would be nice if... During a visit to family in West Ashley last fall, we searched out this greenway. It was definitely tricky finding where to park our car on the west end of the trail. We found a parking lot just outside a business and began at the western end off county road 20 across water heading east. Be sure to check out... More
