The Footlight Players were ceremoniously launched in 1931 with a series of one-act plays directed by Lieutenant Commander Charles Russell Price at the Charleston Navy yard. The series was such a success and drew such a following that The Footlight Players formally organized and incorporated in the fall of 1932. What began as a small group has become for Charleston a theatrical tradition, built and strengthened over many years by hundreds of willing hands, the priceless gifts of time and toil, and by faith, enthusiasm and talent. Footlight Players is poised to continue its rich tradition of quality community theatre and reach new heights of entertainment, creative development, and cultural enrichment. We welcome your participation as a patron, volunteer, business partner, actor, crew or any of the myriad aspects of live theater.

Cast did a very nice job of Dial "M" for Murder. Very enjoyable. My only complaint would be that at times the voices didn't project as well as I would expect. Comfortable theater. I will return.

The Theater itself is comfortable, and thank goodness it was Nicely Air Conditioned on a hot, hot summer night. Drinks and snacks are available at the small bar in the Lobby It was just a shame the play we saw “The Wedding Singer” wasn't any...More

We like to visit local theater productions while travelling and found this to be a fun group. The setting is in an old warehouse in the French Quarter which adds to the atmosphere.

Local theater groups vary in their performances but this one is often excellent and less known than it should be. We have enjoyed the best in places like Westport CT, and this troupe often shows a similar level of expertise. In the center of downtown...More

We had a wonderful time seeing the play Bakersfield Mist. It was funny and creative. I love seeing plays here. We are always happy with this venue! Their concessions are cheap and the seats were great! They always have one of a kind shows here!

My hubby and I celebrated our 26th Anniversary by purchasing tickets for A Chorus Line. Somehow, we ended up on the front row. At first, that made me nervous that I wouldn't have a good experience, but I was wrong. We had a marvelous time!...More

Went here during Spoletto and was very pleasantly surprised. Was also surprised by how long it has been in existence and will now try and go here more often. Locals entertaining the masses.

A local theater group that has been in existence for a long time. Yes, it is amateur production but the historical setting and the enthusiasm of the cast and audience makes this a way to spend an evening doing something that the natives do.

We chose excellent seats and purchased tickets by phone well in advance of the performance. We arrived at Will Call to find that the box office had no record of our purchase and had sold our seats to someone else. We were entertaining my husband's...More
