This is our second visit here. We thought it was important that our 12 year old grandson knew more about slavery and this is a good place to do that. He thought it was very interesting.

Upon arrival, we were told a brief but thorough history of the slave trade in Charleston. However, the exhibits consisted of posters and artifacts on display. I think they could improve tremendously by offering some type of interactive exhibits for a more immersive visitor experience,...More

This museum focuses on the period after the international trade of slaves became illegal, and shares the experiences of slaves who were bred and traded through the South up to the civil war. The staff does a very respectful job of showing what that life...More

Not prepared for the intensity of this experience. Kind of like the Holocaust Museum. Exprienced man's inhumanity to man. Important for everyone to experience this.

The museum is not suited for younger children due to the extensive reading required. When you walk in and pay, there is an immediate bottle neck of people stopped to read the displays on the first floor (the space is small). Upstairs the crowd scattered...More

The Old Slave Mart is very convenient to get to. I expected more information to be available, but for the low price for the exhibit, it was well worth it. The guest service was informative, it only takes about 30-60 minutes to view the entire...More

I feel like the idea of the museum is nice, however, I suppose I expected a little more than just posters with historical information. Oh, and the chains that were in display counters upstairs. It was okay. Not necessarily something you need to pay for.

Hubby and I enjoyed our visit. First you are greeted with a brief introduction then you conduct a self guided tour. Parts of the building are original. Moderately priced and teachers and military receive a discount.

It was very humbling to be in the location where so many people were sold into slavery. This museum did a very good job at detailing the history of slavery and what the slaves had to endure. Would highly recommend.
