Can't not go

While in Charleston, we always have to frequent the market. There is just so much to see. There are varying degrees of crafting skills here but each to their own.

If interested, this can be a short stop. While some shops have local produce, a lot of shops are focused on tourists

They could do so much better. Most of the shops were just plain tacky and not worth buying. I wouldn't waste my time here. NEXT!

This is a hub for the Gullah sweetgrass basketmakers to display their craft. There is excellent work to be found here, with baskets in a wide range of pricing including pieces well into the hundreds and even thousands of dollars. This is to me the most interesting part of the market, which also includes woodworking, local food products, and other... More

Really enjoyed walking through to see all the vendors. Make sure you stop and chat with a few of the basket weavers. I learned so much about the history, the designs and the process.

We were hoping for a farmers market atmosphere, but were disappointed to find items geered for tourists. Most did not look high quality or very expensive. It could be an amazing space. Unfortunately, nothing worth purchasing.

The very good part was that the site is historic and interesting and there are a number of local artisans. There are several vendors that are only average and some not so outstanding.

Enough Said! We managed to make it through one of the buildings, and quickly exited. Personally I would say, don't waste your time.

Very nice covered area that rents to local artisans. Everything from woven baskets to baseball cards. Several public bathrooms scattered throughout which is nice also. Surrounded by multiple restaurants and shops as well.

The Market is one of our favorite activities in Downtown Charleston. It is incredible to watch the basket-weavers. We always come away with eclectic treasures when we visit.
