The great hall and exchange floor are interesting and give you a lot of Charleston history and Revolutionary War background. The most fun was the guided tour by Walter through the basement dungeon making all of the pirate, British, Revolutionary War, and slave events come alive. Was one of the best things we saw in Charleston.

We enjoyed a tour of the lower level of the Exchange, which had been used as a jail by the British during the Revolutionary War when they occupied Charleston. The docent Phil was well informed and interesting. Not a long tour but one we enjoyed that added to our knowledge of the city's history.

My daughter in law and I went on this Ghosts and Dungeons tour. It was fun and the guide was very good. Dungeon was interesting with the "characters" in their "cells". I was very interested in the grave yard information--especially info about the plague signs on the stones.

The building itself has a tremendous history. Calling the dungeon a dungeon is really a stretch. Great guides and narrative, so it is still worth the trip.

The dungeon was part of a Ghost walk and is rather eerie in the dark of night. While walking through you are shown a piece of the original walls and how the lower end of Charleston floods.

The main floor and 2nd floor are free, you do have to pay admission to the dungeon. They have more in depth info on the creation of Charleston and the importance/significance of the building. We liked that the staff were dressed in era clothing and around for easy and comfortable inquiries from guests. Our 8yo got a little bored with... More

Interesting history and tour of the dungeon. Make sure you get there by 4:30 before the last tour. Dressed in costume.

The tour of the old exchange and dungeon was great but I am a history nerd so it might not be for every one. Children seemed to like it as well on our visit. If you don't enjoy history this might not be the place for you!
