Great hike, trail can be a little rough at times. Go in the dead of winter if you don't want to see the snakes and gators.

I’m always looking for a good nature walk while on my business trips. I was staying in Cayce SC when I came across this wilderness area. The 3 mile nature trail winds back in forth through the alligator infested bogs. Luckily the trail was very...More

When we arrived in late April, the parking lot for this preserve was closed off. The closure seems like it may be permanent. Some of the previous reviews of this preserve are actually of the Cayce Riverwalk, which has paved sidewalks. There is an entrance...More

In the Spring it is beautiful. The boardwalk takes you to a lookout over a lake. At the right time you may see egrets in plumage nesting in the trees.

Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve is a hidden gem in the midlands. The trail is very narrow, but well marked. The old clay pits and surrounding forest, now mini-ponds are home to a multitude of wildlife. On a recent hike, we saw a doe, pileated woodpecker,...More

Beautiful hiking along the river and swamp areas. It's free and pet friendly. It's a great way to spend a weekend afternoon.
