We stumbled across St Helena's while exploring the pretty streets of Beaufort. It came as a surprise that the church is one of the country's oldest and that its atmospheric cemetery is home to congressmen, veterans of the revolutionary and civil wars, and even a...More

I know this is a historic building but if you are in Beaufort on Sunday morning, consider worshiping here. A warm congregation. A powerful device. All in a beautiful pre Revolutionary War Anglican Church. Quite an uplifting experience.

Visited this church as part of a day trip from Charleston. It's nice that members of the congregation serve as docents. Our "guide" gave us a good overview of the history of this church. She also mentioned graves of note in the surrounding cemetery that...More

The historical district of Beaufort is lovely, and wouldn't be complete with out a visit to St. Helena's. Our docent, Wayne, knew the history of the church & town, and added a personal touch.

Very interesting history attached to this church: old history as well as recent history. The docent who helped us was very knowledgeable. Great place to attend church also.

Azaleas blooming in and around the headstones of Beaufort's early settlers. Tranquil setting for reflection. Here you can find the graves of the McKees who taught the later famous Robert Smalls to read. The interior of the Church has a docent but was not open...More

To see so many stones from the 1700's in such a beautifully maintained cemetery. Read the plaques. Read about the church before you enter. For those who want to see the "history" of early families in Beaufort this is the place to come.

This was one of the local landmarks we visited while vacationing in Beaufort. Very nice well kept old church and graveyard. My fascination lies with the graveyard as it contains the remains the many of the early settlers to this area. If only graves the...More

During a carriage tour, it was noted that this church dates from the early 1700s and is the oldest in Beaufort. Later while walking the old town, we visited the old cemetery, which includes Revolutionary War and Civil War (Confederate) generals, officers and men, and...More
