This is a beautiful lighthouse and in a great park setting. It's nice to see that it's actually open so you can walk to the top.

Great hike up to the top of the lighthouse and beautiful views from the top! The park just underwent massive reconstruction after Hurricane Matthew did extensive damage, but the park has done tremendous work in getting it reopened again!

You can't visit the hunting state park without a visit to the lighthouse. Although I am afraid of heights I always brave it.. the views are well worth it! Lowcountry at its finest, certainly not to be overlooked.

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Does anyone know if the lighthouse is open? No one answers when we call and it doesn't say anything on the website for the lighthouse. Anyone been recently inside the lighthouse since the hurricane came through?

As I understand the the lighthouse is fine, but the fence around it didn't survive. The island is devastated all the infastructure needs rebuilt. The only part of the island open is at the pier. .

Built in 1870s as one of the first segmented cast iron lighthouses. Very impressive. Grounds also have other historical structures to visit. My whole family ages 42-6 enjoyed it. Beautiful place to picnic or enjoy the beach... More
