We spent a lovely afternoon at Wheatland. The grounds are beautiful and the house is in wonderful condition. We were pleased to learn so much about Buchanan, a president we knew very little about. We were also thrilled that so many of the furnishings were...More

Beautifully preserved home of James Buchanan. 80% of the furnishings are those used by him. Wonderful tour and beautiful grounds.

Thank you for taking the time to review LancasterHistory.org. We are glad you enjoyed your Wheatland Tour and our Arboretum. There are over 100 species of trees on our 10 acres.

Wheatland was the home of James Buchanan, the U.S.A.'s 15th president. He isn't exactly the most well known leader we've had, and I braced myself for a disappointing visit. I was wrong! The tour guide was well informed and mostly unbiased. Information about Buchanan was...More

With myself and some others in our party being history geeks, this was on our list. OK, so Buchanan was not one of my top ten favorite presidents - not even close - but this needs to be on your list. Surprised by what a...More

I have a "thing" for Presidential homes and this didn't disappoint. The guide was well informed and answered my 2.7 billion questions. We were the only two on the tour, so we had plenty of time to look at everything.

Stopped in Lancaster Historical Society with only a few minutes to spare and found a wealth of information on the area. Librarians on call were incredibly helpful. Exhibits looked very interesting. A genealogist's dream ~ we returned the next day and did not regret it!
