interesting history

small museum but informative town info, enjoyed it, don't think kids would enjoy it though unless they are older and into learning about history

Very disappointed, Closed in winter during the week. Website says open weekdays in summer, so I am unsure if that is Only July-August. Trip advisor should be updated. A very nice woman (over the phone) gave me tons of information, and sent me to the information center at the railroad station! Many restaurants and shops are open in the winter

We visited the museum in February. Many of the other attractions, like the Packer Museum and Railroad Tour, were closed for the winter season. The museum was a great alternative! For a small fee, around $5 I think, we got to see a short movie on the history of the area, then got to walk around and see relics of... More

This museum displays the history of Mauch Chunk. It is amazing! From the automated orchestral machine to the displays of the switchback railroad. It details the economic and cultural past of Jim Thorpe, PA. Some of the displays need updating, but overall, it is well worth your time. Plan at least an hour and a half.

I did not expect much when I came here at first. No, this is not your typical small town museum. It really does give a detaile history of the town.

Took a short trip while in the Poconos. This was some place we had discussed going to and found a parking space across from the museum. There is a five dollar admission fee and you start by viewing a 15 minute video outlining the area history. The museum is located in a former Methodist Church and is a bit crowded,... More

My husband and I visited here on 8/13. (The picture that is posted is not the museum.) They showed you a 10-15min video about the town and then there were a lot of artifacts to look at. It was only $5.00, so you should browse through.

This is a small museum that is full of interesting information/artifacts about the past and present of Mauch Chunk. We got to see a short video about Mauch Chunk's history and then a personal tour of the museum. The women that gave the tour was great and took the time to really explained things. I was not bored and this... More

My husband and I stopped in as we were passing by on a walk around town. We enjoyed the displays and learned a few things about Jim Thorpe. Some of the displays may be a bit outdated however overall it was still informative and educational.
