In the street next to the water's edge stands the wooden cottage of artist William Dobell, which was extended to include an airy downstairs large room. The place has extensive displays documenting his life, and shows off some of his extensive artwork. The rooms have been 'preserved' in the style and era of his lifetime. What was amazing is that... Dobell House is a fantastic place to visit for young and old especially those interested in art. The house remains the same as it was when Sir William Dobell lived there. It is interesting to see how he lived, where he worked and gives a representative of his life. Most of the furnishings, décor and his studio remains as he... More

It was a great experience walking through Dobell's own home and studio, it feels like he's still here. The set up of the studio upstairs is as it was years ago, and feels very authentic walking through. It was a great pictorial representation of his life, as his works and legacy were placed around as you tour the house. It's... More

This lovely property is Dobell's own residence and art studio. The furnishings and memorabilia have been left as original (or replaced with near to original). The piano is stunning. The cottage is small and intimate, the volunteer staff are very knowledgeable. They are able to take you through the history of items and the history of the house's occupants, particularly... More

The great Australian artist Sir William Dobell lived in this modest house for many years with his older sister. In fact he helped his father build it as family weekender in the early part of the 20th century. Everything has been left virtually intact from when Dobell died in the house in 1970, including his studio, his dressing room, the... More

This lovely older home on the shores of Lake Macquarie is at Wangi Wangi. It has been kept pretty well the way Bill Dobell and his sister had this house when we lived next door to them as a child! I take my hat of to the committee for the upkeep on this home and all of the history and... More

Had a wonderful visit to Dobell House - home of the late Sir William Dobell, the famous Australian artist. The home has been beautifully preserved. The staff who maintain and run the "open house" provided interesting stories and humorous pieces of information about the life of this amazing Australian artist. The home did not have any original paintings, but provided... More

Didn't realise the house of William Dobell was here, found it on our way up the Coast. Just check the visiting hours first because we got there 10.30am but it didn't open till 1pm.

If you were a tourist you would need your satnav to find it as its on the western side of beautiful Lake Macquarie. Yes it is situated right on Lake Macquarie with views of the lake whilst you are dining. Good selection on the menu so all will be catered for - go for a walk along the lakes shoreline... More
