With the help of a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Trinity House renovated the Engine Room at Lizard Lighthouse, retaining some of the old engines. It now also features new exhibition material, an audio visual room and a number of interactive displays. The Lizard Lighthouse Heritage Centre was officially opened in 2009 by HRH The Princess Royal.

The distinctive twin towers of Lizard Lighthouse mark the most southerly point of mainland Britain. See displays depicting Trinity House's history, housed in the original engine room. It was commissioned in 1752. For over 250 years, the lighthouse has provided a welcoming landfall light to vessels crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

Tours of Lizard Lighthouse are organised under licence from the Corporation of Trinity House.

Not only is this centre in a magical location but it is really interesting inside as well as out. The museum charted the history of lighthouses, covering their operation, equipment, and the life-saving role to Mariners. Look in the drawers in the museum, they contain many interesting facts, figures, explanations. Watch and listen to the video with the commentary by... More

Well worth a visit and tour to learn the workings of a lighthouse. It belongs to national trust now so you will have to pay for parking aswell as entry fee.

We were on holiday staying in a self catering cottage not far away and we were exploring all tge different coves and then came across the lighthouse but it was closed. Even so we had a look around it from the outside and sat and looked at the lovely view. I enjoyed it even though we couldn't go inside :-)

We took the guided tour. Caroline - the lighthouse keeper - was excellent and gave us a great insight into the past and present operations of the lighthouse.
