This hike is located just a couple of km from Smolyan but it's not totally clear where to park and access the trail. We found the rad there easy enough but to get to the official car park involves driving up a very rocky, pot holed track and as we only had a small car we decided this wasn't a good idea. Instead we parked on the side of the road at the bottom which lots of other people did later on - we arrived early and nobody else was there. It's about a 1/2 hour hike up the track until you reach the Visitors Centre for which we saw no signs (not in English anyway) and there we were met by a helpful member of the staff who advised us that we should only access the trail as far as the Orphos waterfall and not to complete the loop trail as the track and the condition of the bridges is dangerous. As it turned out, a. couple of the bridges are a bit rickety but nothing too dangerous and we were able to cross the easily, although carefully! We completed the loop trail which was quite steep in places but with beautiful wooded scenery and some great viewpoints looking out across the Rhodope Mountains! As it was August, the waterfalls weren't in full flow though I imagine in Spring they must be quite spectacular .

An amazing experience near Smolyan!
Park right before the road forks if you're not in for an off-road experience. The actual trail starts about 1km further and the beginning is quite boring.
The hike is not very short - my phone tracked 11km for the long circular route. The first half, which leads to the Orpheus waterfall is easy, not too steep and has lots of places to rest or have a picnic. It's a very scenic route with a lot of wooden bridges and picturesque waterfall views. After 15-20 minutes of walking there's a 'hidden' waterfall, 5 meters opposite of the actual route, don't miss it! You can take the short route and go back after reaching the biggest waterfall, but I'd recommend going a bit further. The trail goes up and above the waterfall, then it forks a bit further. Taking the left turn will take you to the first scenic viewpoint, where you can see the mountain and Smolyan in the distance. Continuing right leads along the trail, with 2 more forks for scenic points of interest. If you don't want to walk too much just go back after the first one, as the trail gets a bit steep and rocky on the other side.
There's lots of people there - during our visit there were at least 50 cars parked near the beginning.
When you get back you can buy some well deserved homemade lemonade and meatballs(kebapcheta <3 )

You can park in the road before the turning, or pay 4 leva for the privilege of having someone look after your car for the day OR drive up a bit further the awful road and park there. Then the walk starts...which goes past a few hungry jeep drivers who will offer to take you (for 5 leva we heard) to the ACTUAL beginning of the walk under the canopy of trees. Admittedly the first bit is a bit of a slog, but you could treat it as a warm up.
With regular opportunities to stop and take a break with your picnic (take your rubbish home of course) it's a delightful morning's walking. There are steep parts but overall it's relatively straight forward. Recommended! Oh, and it took us 3.5 hours but we weren't in a hurry and had a very long stop at the top.

The trail was amazing - it is not very steep, the paths are very pleasant since there are spots that are sunny, others that are under the shadow. Everything is well organised - there are signs with directions and the people who take care of the place keep it clean! There are beautiful views and several waterfalls. Highly recommend for a sunny walk in the mountain - we were during summer and the weather was very nice!

We had a great experience during our walk along the eco-path. Follow the signs and beware that this is a circular route. Views are well worth the long walk - the trail is 6.5 km long. Don't worry, it's not too steep. It's suitable for children and dogs too. Take your time - you will spend between 3 and 4.5 hours there.

Wonderful trail any time of year. I do recommend to hit the trail in the warm months (from May to midle of September). And if you are located in Pamporovo, you should visit also Snezhanka Tower with the open lift chair.Tickets from Pamporovo Tourist Information Center. Good job guys.
