Teddy Roosevelt declared that this Italian Renaissance-style building was “the handsomest building I ever saw”. Indeed, the State Capitol, with its vaulted dome and grand staircase and the murals and painted floors inside, is thing to behold.

If you are a political buff or into architecture (Beaux-Arts style), you will enjoy this locale. decorative Renaissance themed. The building was completed in 1906, designated U.S Historic Landmark 02/13/2013. Tours are given and it is family friendly.

Went here on a class trip with the 4th grade. This building is absolutely beautiful inside! We were very impressed with the decor, the paintings, sculptures, stained glass windows, the rooms, everything. The children enjoyed learning about their state.

The architecture, the paintings, the DOME inside and out, the carved statues and history make this, in my opinion the most beautiful State capital in the nation (although I haven't seen them all).
