Truly a town education and outreach center, this 40,000 square foot museum reflects the Pennsylvania artist and environment. Highlighting the Bucks County visual arts tradition, dating from Colonial times, makes for an interesting, $18, visit. The room dedicated to James Michener is an appropriate opening display, just to the side of reception. It is laid out as if the writer... More

I love visiting the Michener and do so about once a year. Although it is not a large museum it is tied to Bucks County and it's artistic traditions. It is the best place I know to see the work of the New Hope School. There is also a great woodworking tradition in the area so it also focuses on... More

I try & get there a couple of times a year. They have different exhibits every few months or so, plus the local impressionist. Usual I go with friends or neighbors, and enjoy a lunch or dinner in Doylestown afterward, which is in walking distance. The museum is small but well worth stoppping in, especially if they are having one... More

When out of town visitors are looking for new experiences, I recommend the James Michener Art Museum. It is a very unique place with a great number of one of a kind artifacts.

The Michener is a small museum housed in the former Bucks County Jail. The building is cool. Their regular collection is mostly of Bucks County Impressionists. They have various exhibits throughout the year. Often there are three special exhibits at a time. There is a Nakashima room with his beautiful wood furniture. They have a room dedicated to the collections... More

This is a small art museum so may not be worth your time. There is an equally small "cafe" tucked back in the corner of the gift shop. Plentiful parking and extremely friendly staff!

This was my first visit to the Michener Art Museum. We traveled from New Jersey to see a screening of a new documentary. Event room was a nice size with comfortable chairs. Sound was good. I did feel that the screen was a little too high. Even though the height gave everyone a clear view, my neck got very stiff... More

I lived in Doylestown for decades and visited regularly. As an artist, I was interested in what they presented and also became connected because of their interest in Bucks County Artists. The collection features all the historic figures from the American Impressionist period who lived in the county and congregated in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Edward Redfield and Daniel Garber are... This museum has become one of my favorite places to visit. I became a member this year and am so happy I joined. Their exhibits are wonderful and they change frequently making a membership well worthwhile. They offer many activities from jazz concerts to a wide range of art lessons.

Having attended many exhibitions and programs at the Michener I have always come away with a deeper appreciation for art, artists and the place of art in our society. The museum mounts interesting and informative exhibits and complements them with public programs that never fail to deepen my understanding of the art. Although the Michener is a center for Pennsylvania... More
