When the snow melts, the river roars
Mar 2019
This is one of my favorite hikes and I have been several time this year. In early February, my friend and I hiked in sunny warm weather. When my daughter arrived in March, we were told by the ranger we could only approach the hike from the west with snow shoes! We waited a couple of weeks and encountered patches of snow and a roaring river. Recently, in early August, the river seemed calmer and quieter.

Tree Huggers Delight
May 2019 • Couples
This is a short, delightful trail that runs along the rushing Salmon River. It’s a flat, easy trail that winds itself by several old growth trees that are a wonder to behold. You just have to stop and hug one. There are many photo opportunities though it can be tough to find the right exposure on a bright, sunny day with the sun and shadow contrasts. Best of all this trail is almost always open in early May when many of the other scenic hikes can be closed due to snow. Other highlights included the moss draped trees and the Spring wildflowers.

Wildwood is accessable, beautiful and educational

Reading the reviews, it's clear several different trails are described. There is a fee for this park and it is worth it. There is ample easy parking. most trails are accessable. There are hills and flat areas. The area to see under water is fasinating. I have enjoyed this venue with two young grandchildren and I hosted a reunion event and rented one of the picnic shelters.

wheelchair friendly trails
May 2018 • Couples
Nice wheelchair friendly trails paved and wide- many benches with artisan carved backs to view river from. Many picnic tables along the path. Underwater views, cute bridge, lovely scenery, flushing toilets and water spigots along the trails. This is a nice park.

Parking can be a little limited but it's worth the visit. There are many spots along the river you can walk to the edge of the river and get a better view. We were lucky enough to see several salmon in the river, unfortunately several of them were post spawn and dying but still great to see a magnificent fish in the wild. The trail is relatively easy but is narrow, so as people pass you have to stand to the side quite often. I would love to live in an area like this and have the opportunity to do something like this on a regular basis. It keeps you fit, brings you back to nature and is very rewarding. Some of the trees are really old, very tall, straight and pretty wide. Others are covered in moss. You won't be disappointed. Not sure if you're supposed to have a Forest pass but there wasn't anywhere to purchase one where we parked but you should probably check.

Trail 742a- old salmon river trail

Just off Hwy 26 near Zigzag. Easy trail running alongside the river and under all the beautiful trees. Stops along the trail allowed us to watch the fish.

Great viewing, not much water

The trail is very nice and not too difficult. You could tell there is a drought occurring at this time, but there were still some rapids. Very peaceful and a great activity.

Short trial, brief view of the river
Aug 2017 • Couples
The trail started behind our timeshare property but it wasn't very long. The view of the river was just so-so, but it was a nice brief walk.
