In three weeks of trailing around Oregon and British Columbia, my partner and I agreed that the Salmon River Trail, near Mount Hood, was the best of the lot. The Salmon River trailhead is located five miles along East Salmon River Road, a turnoff from...More

This is a beautiful trail, just make sure you take your hiking shoes. This is a 14.5 mile loop and I didn't see any markers in the first couple of miles. If it is busy you will have to stop to let hikers pass as...More

Some very nice views and not to tough. Gradual climb and then along the river as well. It was our first hike and not really strenuous enough for our family. Seemed like a popular backpacking starting point. We only went about 2-3 miles in and...More

My family took our vacation looking at college in the Northwest and had a detour to Mount Hood for a couple of days. The trails were exceptional and I really enjoyed exploring the Salmon River trail with my family.

Walk along the river along a well tended trail. Jump in the river at a number of spots and check out the amazing tree canopy. Beautiful gentle hike.

I'm not a great hiker, but this trail was somewhat easy. I can't remember what trail head number we went to, but it was just fine--path clean and easy to walk.

I hiked this trail and other at the Wildwood Rec Area. It was so beautiful. We had a nice picnic on the river, but unfortunately you can't camp here. Day use only. However, this is a great campground nearby in the same forest. It is...More
