This is such a great drive through pine forests and lava fields! The views are stunning! A must drive if you are visiting Central Oregon. I take all my out-of-town visitors here.

The observatory at the McKenzie Pass summit gives a panoramic view of several surrounding volcano mountains, individually framed in rock windows in a wonderful little WPA project building built of black lava chunks. It is a testament to the beauty of nature and a reminder...More

The old road is closed to all but bikes each year in early June. Very special. Incredible views. The road is in great shape. There is a restroom at the observatory on top but no water.

This is a very scenic road. There are waterfalls and streams and mountains. Everything you could want on a scenic drive.

We passed by snow covered mountains, lava fields, miles of trees, hairpin turns, rivers and more. An amazing part of the USA, not to be missed.

We drive up there to see the fall colors but were to late. It is a nice drive when it is open and very pretty too. Seeing the mountains with snow on them are a treat for anyone that sees them.

Beautiful drive - personally I prefer travelling east bound, ending in Sisters - take it slow, enjoy the twists and turns of the curves, breathing the fresh air, and pondering the vastness of the area.

It's a totally safe road, but be aware of your speed. People driving too fast tend to stray into the other lane and onto the shoulder on curves. I ride it on a motorcycle several times a summer.......other drivers are the... More
