Oregon Coast Day Trip: Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock

200 reviews
Explore the northern coast of Oregon with ease on a full-day tour from Portland. Look for whale sightings from Neahkahnie Point, then check out the shops or beach in Manzanita. Visit an old-growth forest, have time to purchase lunch and explore Cannon Beach, and walk around Haystack Rock and the beach that flanks it. Stop at a historical logging museum on the return drive to Portland.

Very interesting look at early Clatsop area history. Nicely done displays honoring native Americans as well as the white settlers. The Butterfield Cottage next door is furnished in period style and gives you a glimpse into the 1890s.

I learned a lot about Seaside here, the lady was so nice and gave us a lot of interesting details and led us on a tour of the house here too.

Drove from Portland, OR to Seaside, OR to attend Gingerbread Tea and it was perfect. A charming army of grandmothers in matching gingerbread aprons serve homemade gingerbread and gingerbread cookies for children. They take your order and bring out vintage tea cups for tea or bring you cups of cider or hot chocolate. Each place setting had a candy cane. The centerpieces were handmade gingerbread families. It was $5 and completely worth it. The grandmothers were amazing and very kind to our 2-year old who wanted to join them in the historical kitchen. They even invited us to tour the upstairs to see the decorated holiday rooms upstairs. We spent 30 minutes. I was charmed by local families of six coming by for a holiday tea as well as a group of out of towners striking up conversation about how they made it to Seaside for Thanksgiving Weekend. Completely charming. Highly recommend and we will return.
