Every summer the M.O.T.H. has great music for free. This past week was Orquestra Akokan, a group of Cuban musicans touring the US. It was great salsa and mambo dance music. Bring your chair and dinner, or buy from local food trucks on scene. For better known groups (think Pink Martini or The Waifs), you're allowed to place a blanket after 6AM the day of to reserve your spot.

What fun was had twice on my visit to Roseburg! I was in town visiting friends and they told me they would take me to Music on the Half Shell. They set the alarm and ventured out to place a blanket in a spot they always chose in the grass and the next evening (always Tuesday's I was told) we arrived with our evening snacks and beverages and chairs (the ones with almost no legs). What a great event! Fun for the whole family. Food trucks available and lots of wonderful music. I wish we had this event in my hometown! I will be sure to return to Roseburg during the same time next visit so I can enjoy MOTHS again!

We travel from Kodiak Alaska most every summer to Roseburg Oregon to visit friends. The first thing we do is find out who will be at the Half Shell while we are there. Stewart Park is a great Venue right on the river. We give the Half Shell and Excellent rating and recommend that you attend.

Great music for free! Who could ask for more? Well, you get much more! Loved the venue, the food vendors and the security was right on it for a really nice evening. The shuttle supplied by the Honda dealer was a lifesaver! Thanks for a fun outing.

I have been attending Music on the Half Shell for ten seasons now, - the most recent having concluded this past August with an astoundingly good concert by Pink Martini, with guest artist The Von Trapps. It was the second time I'd been lucky enough to catch P.M. - one of my favorite all-time bands - for FREE less than a MILE from my home. How Lucky!!!! I've paid hundreds for tickets in Portland to see them, but here in our small town, there is nothing more asked of folks than a passed pail at intermission - give what you can, if you will. The major cost of sponsoring P.M. and the dozens of other fabulous performers each summer is paid by businesses and individuals who really believe strongly in bringing quality music to Roseburg for ALL to enjoy. How lovely is that?! If you are from here and have never gone - get out there, lay down your blanket, and just ENJOY! If you're passing through next summer, it's every Tuesday evening (check the Half-Shell website for specifics) from late June through mid-August usually. We have a beautiful park with a bandshell that nestles right up under the trees alongside our scenic Umpqua River - and that is our delightful venue. I love getting together with my best friends, combining picnics, and just enjoying the music as our warm afternoons give way to cool evenings. It is a treat and an honor to be able to enjoy this year after year, and I truly hope it never ends.
