We thoroughly enjoyed our first time camping here. I've read other reviews where there were complaints of noise so maybe we got lucky that this place was filled the whole time we were there but it was dead quiet! Everyone was super respectful of each other and even the hum of generators on a few trailers were never longer than a couple hrs. Bathrooms maintained nicely. Only drawback was showers closed this season due to Covid. Both sets of camp hosts were so friendly and welcoming and would generally come by at least once a day to see if we needed anything. We really appreciated the care and love they put in to maintaining their campground.

This BLM campground created for tent camping years ago leaves little space per site. Very little privacy and I always find the campground packed out. A positive is that I did have cell coverage via Verizon. Lots of families, dogs, and sites with multiple vehicles. Bathrooms were clean and park host nice. Take bug repellant and watch for the poison oak. I would recommend drive up the North Umpqua River to Horseshoe Bend campground. Sites are larger more privacy and less crowded.

Susan Creek has long been a popular place for North Umpqua tourist and fishermen to stay. As a result is often difficult to find any empty spot. It has a nice restroom with hot showers, welcome after a long day on the river in hot waders. Over the last few years, however, the addition of more camp sites within the same space has greatly reduced the pleasure of camping there. You are now so closely crowded together that there is minimal privacy and you can't help but hear every word spoken in the adjacent camps, not a very pleasant experience. The North Umpqua River has become so crowded in the summer that is is difficult to find a place to stay, so often, you are stuck with this rather unpleasant "camping" experience.

Susan Creek Campground used to be our absolute favorite place to camp...we go several times a year. It is a serene setting and used to be filled with respectful families, retired couples and fly fisherman. This year, however, the crowd seems to have changed...smokers (pot and cigarettes), lewd behavior, and a slew of people who look near homeless and don't know how to flush the toilets or pick dirty toilet paper up off the floor. Our last visit we went to get away from wildfire smoke, only to find a haze of cigarette and pot smoke. It was hot and we had to close most of the windows in our camper because the neighbors were up all night smoking and it was drifting right into our windows. I would LOVE it if campgrounds became non smoking...we shouldn't have to smell it when we are looking to get out in nature. We overheard several verbal altercations and there were lots of cars out driving the loop late at night. Thank goodness for the AMAZING campground hosts who work so hard to keep the place sparkling despite the constant filth left behind...I'm afraid if they leave that the place will go downhill fast. We have one more trip planned here this summer and if we find it to be a similar experience, we may have to give up on Susan Creek. We would even be willing to pay double the rate for this campground to keep it beautiful and in an attempt to keep the "riff raff" out.

Do not pass this beauty up, as you travel hwy 138. It is one of many beautiful campgrounds/waterfalls along highway 138.
