This is a great moderate hike that takes you through many different areas - forest, dunes, ocean beach, just to name a few. We started at the Tahkenitch Campground and headed west on the Dunes Trail. Pass is required at the campground, but you can just purchase a day use pass for $5 on the spot. There is no attendant,... More

Awesome hike through woods along a creek. Must cross a creek that can be up to thigh deep at times. Cross sand dunes to beach. Over the half the time. I find myself on the beach with only the people I came with. Awesome!

This loop trail in the Dunes area has a wonderful mix of flora and fauna that segues to scrub pine at the margins of the ocean beachfront. What is striking is how the forest sits upon Miocene era dune topography, and how rich the flora and fauna is....frogs, newts, & fungi galore!
