I liked this old church. The church building is nice and there are really nice gardens on one side. It is mainly brick and it makes me wonder how long it took to build. It's a nice quick stop.

As the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) begins to gather at the Oregon Convention Center, interest in visiting this amazing church to see its stained glass and decorative woodwork is peaking. It was the General Assembly back in the 1890's that caused the church to add the ornate balcony that graces the sanctuary. The acoustics are amazing. There... More

This is the MOST beautiful church and it has so much history with the city of Portland. The organ is phenomenal and wonderful! It is SUCH a beautiful church that it is a must see on any tour of Portland. Insist on hearing the organ, however, as well!!!

Build when timber was king, All wood in sanctuary and an amazing stained glass window. Just takes a moment to pop in and look.

Read up on how this church was built before visiting, and you will have even more of an appreciation when you arrive. Ask for the organist to do a demonstration, it is phenomenal. The folks at this church could not have been more helpful to me, as I was visiting with a high school choir. They literally helped me build... More

Between the extensive, lovely gardens out front of this 160 year old historic church and the extensive woodwork throughout the pews, railings to include floor to ceiling- you can't help but be amazed at how good the acoustics are for the fine musicians to sing within. A grand place to worship to hear the spiritual words from the pastors, their... More

The cherrywood pews, railings and other woodwork make this church a real masterpiece among Portland churches. The acoustics are good, the musicians are good, and it is a beautiful place to worship.

I was visiting a friend who attends First Presbyterian. She invited me to church with her on Sunday and it was a real treat. The woodwork inside is gorgeous-- a dramatic display of Oregon's industry and resource at work. The acoustics were fantastic and the place warm and inviting. Check it out if you stumble upon it.

First Presbyterian Church of Portland's interior was built from Oregon's greatest gift: lumber. A handcrafted piece of carpenter's art, this historic building has been the center for ministry to Portland, Oregon and out into the world. It is a beautiful site for a wedding, but a visit any time is a pleasure. Even better on Sunday to experience the gathered... More

Worth the walk to look at this beautiful building. It was closed when I went there, and I will make it a point to try to take a tour the next time I am in town.
