Western US transit is so much better than Eastern. Clean, on time, clear communication. Picture the opposite of the NYC subway and you've got it. A reliable, inexpensive source of transportation without giant rats, filth, and rude strangers who would throw you on the tracks...More

It's an ordinary light rail system people! Nothing to see here. While it is clean and easy to use, and much needed with Portland's traffic and screwy freeway system, how some of these things become so highly ranked on Tripadvisor.com is always a mystery to...More

Using the light rail system to get around Portland meant we could wait on renting a car until we left the city. The trains were clean and the routes were easy to navigate.

Download the app on your phone to buy tickets. As an "honored citizen" (over age 65) I was able to buy a week's pass for $7.50.

So I could go on and on about how awesome the MAX is. And it is awesome-punctual, clean, goes everywhere, easy to figure out etc. But I will rest with this: I overheard a person on the train who said he was from New York...More

I used MAX to go from the airport to downtown. For $2.50, you cannot beat the price. It took a little longer than a cab or Uber, but if you have time it is worth it. The only downside - there are definitely some sketchy...More

This is the only way I travel from PDX to downtown. They are lax about enforcing fares/tickets so there are homeless with their shopping carts and others clearly on drugs. Still it is ok to ride but be aware of who is around you.

MAX transit system is very affordable and convenient, on-time travel between downtown and airport location,

We found riding the MAX went fine. We did this during the evening when it was heavily used and while it felt safe, we were a party of five. The service was great and the price hard to beat.

Seniors get 1/2 price. Took the MAX from Amtrak to airport and also station near hotel to downtown and Washington Park.

If you can, do rent a car to visit the gorge area. There are so many waterfalls to see, places to hike (short to long, easy to difficult), and views to enjoy.

I don't believe so. This is a city / suburban service. Eugene is almost 2hours south of Portland on I5.
