There are plenty of things to see and do in Old Town that has its own unique classic charm. There are some interesting attractions like Lan Su Chinese Garden, Haunted Pub Tours, Shanghai Tunnel tours where Portland’s lawless past is revealed. As far as great places to dine there is Dan & Louis Oyster Bar at 208 SW Ankeny Street.... More

I have never been in a city that had so many people literally sleeping in the middle of the sidewalk, in the doorways of the shops downtown, and the parks were so filled with people living there that you didn't dare go in them. We did walk around in the areas that were recommended to us, but we were so... More

My husband and I join the number of people who have mentioned the terrible problem of vagrants in downtown Portland in their reviews. We were in the process of parking our car. We had intentions of walking around to see some of the more interesting buildings in Old Town...then we saw several vagrants eyeballing us and thought better of it.... More

Hillsboro is growing...fast! But, the old downtown area has been thoughtfully kept as a functioning, viable, and welcoming breath of fresh air. The individual store fronts contain varied businesses that seem to be thriving. Strolling the area, its green spaces, public fountain and using the many well placed benches to simply sit and enjoy your day is a wonderful respite.... More

Every city has problem areas, and Portland has this. Drug addicts, alcoholics and those who have given up on life (or life has given up on them) abound. You feel unsafe walking in broad daylight, so goodness knows what it's like after dark. The city centre is already overwhelmed with beggars on every street corner - a sad indictment of... More

Didn't feel safe enough to park and walk to Voodoo Donuts, Powell Bookstore, etc. because of homeless sleeping on sidewalks around shops.

Visiting Old Town was disappointing as there were a significant amount of homeless everywhere. There were some amazing buildings and great food, but we found ourselves being forced to avoid stopping for long as we would be approached by another homeless asking for money.

This place is not very good spot for tourist. It's deserted, full of homeless, junkies and weirdos. There are couple of things worth seeing there but during my walk I was just focused on not being mugged. Creepy!

Agree, was very disappointed. There were alot of homeless, shelters/homeless missions plus a large illegal homeless camp on one corner. Amazed people "smoking pipes" and visible uses of illegal drug on the street. Didn't feel safe even though we were there during the early afternoon.

We were very disappointed with the Old Town. Usually "old towns" are more vibrant areas of cities with lots of restaurant and attractions. There were a few restaurants or attractions for that matter. Furthermore there were large congregations of vagrants and beggars. I certainly would not go down in that area at night. Portland is a great city to visit... More
