Great First Date (in Feb 2012)

My wife and I owe our marriage to a large degree to the folks at Portland Kayak. My wife is an avid kayaker, and for a first date suggested possibly Kayaking. Unknown to me... read more

We went on the 9am Ross Island "tour". I use quotes because I didn't really learn anything, it was more of a "follow-the-leader" up the river trip. There wasn't any wildlife to see on Ross Island, which was a bummer because I was enticed by that part of the "tour" description. Overall the scenery was lacking, without wildlife Ross Island... My wife and I owe our marriage to a large degree to the folks at Portland Kayak. My wife is an avid kayaker, and for a first date suggested possibly Kayaking. Unknown to me, she was able to get me a rented drysuit and kayak for an unguided trip on the Willamette river. I was sick with a head cold,... More

We did an afternoon tour, replete with beautiful weather, a bit of a cross-breeze sufficient to move the kayaks around, and an absence of boaters.....in short, superb conditions for introduction to kayaking 101. After a safety briefing, we saddled up (can you saddle a kayak? I think not) and began our three hour tour around Ross Island. I made Gilligan... More

We did the 10AM Ross Island tour. In our early 60s we managed just fine as newcomers for this 3 hour tour. They offered tandem kayaks for couples... which was perfect if one didn't want to paddle much. It does become tiring near the end, but it is a terrific experience. One sees a entirely new view of the Portland!... More

We took the Ross Island tour and had a nice afternoon on the water. Portland was going through a heatwave and the drought kept us from going on a planned wetland tour with another kayak company. We heard from our hotel that Portland Kayak had a nice tour around Ross Island, was a close distance from the hotel and had... More

We did the trip in August 2015. when visiting Portland. We had never kayaked the Williamette before so we thought a guided tour to show us the sights was the right way to go. The trip was great, and our guide was very nice, It is about 2.5-3 hours round trip around Ross Island. The river flows very gently so... More

My wife and I are experienced kayakers and own sea kayaks. But when we visit a new area we prefer to do a kayak tour so that we can benefit from the local knowledge of the guide. I prearranged our tour via the telephone. We were joined by our friend who is a novice kayaker. On a beautiful Saturday morning... More

Sunset Tour - The majority of the trip takes place in daylight, it's not until the last 30 mins or so that the sun starts to set, but it's a cool view nonetheless. There was everything from a beginner to experienced kayakers (and a pregnant woman) on this trip, so it truly is open to all levels. We had 2... More

My boyfriend surprised me with a Full Moon Paddle trip. I was pretty tired after a full day at work, but the guides were very easy-going and everyone went at their own pace. I really enjoyed this trip so much more than I thought I would. It is great to see the city from the river, and the kayak trip... More

Great to hear that you had a good time. Even when it is not a full moon we do run evening trips but just a littler earlier, starting at 6pm. Hope to have you paddle with us again soon. More

So much fun! We walked in on a Sunday and were able to get a double kayak in minutes. After some instructions, we wheeled our kayak down to the river and hopped in! It was a beautiful day on the river. Took some great pics of the city from the water. It was Ashley's first time in a kayak! She... More
