Our expert local guides will take you past the modern identity of Portland back to a more dangerous era, where murders, kidnappings, and organized crime could be found behind most of the elegant storefronts of the city. Listen to stories taken straight out of the true history of the last 150 years, and watch for yourself as the spirits of the past can still be seen today.

Visiting Portland from Virginia and thought I would check out the Portland Art Museum. Was disappointed by the lack of variety and poor quality of some of the art. I did enjoy the contemporary wing and the masterpieces there but a few delightful wings does not make up an art museum. Also, why is the wonderful gift shop hidden in the back?

If you can't make it to Paris to visit the Rodin, Louvre, or De l'Orangerie you can get a small taste of it here with some Rodin, Monet, Picaso. The best part of my visit was that I got to go for free! I happened to be in the area and they were just starting to open during Covid. Reservations needed to be done online for time slots, and it was free of charge. Great employee/staff interactions as well.

We enjoyed the "Paris 1900" exhibit in late summer of 2019. Some of the jewelry pieces were exquisite. We also liked the contemporary art wing, particularly the Warhol's. See my photos attached. The girl on the bag check looked like a druggie and did not make a good first impression upon entry. (Backpacks must be checked-in). You can leave the museum and come back again, which we did for lunch. Quality gift shop. Overall, I felt slightly underwhelmed by the PAM, but it was a good way to while away half a day in Portland. Admission is free on the first Thursday of each month, so I try to go. The museum is more densely populated when admission is free, which is an interesting change from the sparse midweek crowds I might generally encounter here. This is a beautiful and modern museum packed with permanent collection art and interesting traveling exhibits.
