Visited when returning from the lighthouse. step back in time and see how life was in the 1800's. Below is a great park area with access to the river. Good fishing spot.

We stopped here after our tour of the lighthouse. Built in the 1800's and still very much original. You can tour upstairs and down stairs. The nearby river offers a place to picnic or kayak or just relax.

Worth the stop on your way to Cape Blanco lighthouse. It is free, but donations accepted. The volunteer guide did a great job. You step back in time and get to know the Hughes family whose son, James, was the first lighthouse keeper.

If you are visiting Cape Blanco lighthouse make sure you stop at the Hughes house too. It closes at 3:30pm, so get there before then. There is RV parking below the house. The house was bought by the state park and entrance is donation only....More

We stopped at the Hughes House and Ranch after touring the Port Orford Lifeboat Station. Actors provided an reenactment of a conversation between two family members to bring you back in time. This is a free tour.

This preserved home should be pared with the Cape Blanco lighthouse, because the original owner and his large family serviced the lighthouse as a keeper for 37 years. The docents are well prepared and engaging.

Great side trip out of the wind! Staffed with knowledgeable volunteers, beautiful house, lots of history, free tours. The staff provided our children with sheets to complete a scavenger hunt, they had a blast and were each given a postcard as a reward.

The tour guide volunteer was very knowledgeable and he was genuinely interested in the history of the house and of the family's history. The house had running water and hot water, plus indoor bathroom. It was nearly state of the art probably back then. Even...More

We debated whether we should stop, but I'm glad we did! The house is perfectly maintained to historic detail. The docents are very knowledgeable and friendly.
