When you go to a tour, you expect some degree of infomercial and this tour did a reasonable job promoting Bob's Red Mill products. I thought the information about the evolution of milling techniques and continual improvement of packaging was very interesting (stand up, re-closeable bags are on their way). The tour guide did a great job although, at times, the rolling speaker apparatus didn't keep up with the location of the cordless microphone. The tour at Bob's Red Mill Factory was one of the highlights of my recent Portland visit. It's slightly low key (small group), but provided a warm-hearted look at the business, the history and the people. Seeing the milling equipment and process up close was a great learning experience. A while ago we visited the Mill with our work group from Boeing! This tour was incredible. Very well organized, extremely informative, and the tour guide Daphne Parker orchestrated a captivating tour that spanned all ages. Even the kiddos running around with us were enthralled in her presentation. I particularly enjoyed the hands on portion where the difference in the grains were explained. It was great to see how our fellow manufacturers are using lean principles in their own environment. …
