It's a ferry, it's scenic, reasonbly cheap, and a short cut if you happen to be going that way!

Great for your country drive, or bicycling/motorcycling Rogue Hop Farms is somewhat close so there is that for a destination (food/wine/beer) Hours are 7-7 unless there is high or very low water.

With family on both sides of the river, the ferry makes going from one place to the other much more convenient. Without it, we add 30 minutes to our travel time by having to go all the way around to the bridge! The staff are friendly & my kids always enjoy looking for the Osprey!

The Buena Vista Ferry is like something out of the past. $3 gets you and your car a ride across the Willamette River. $1 for bikes. Be sure to look for the ospreys. There are active nesting platforms on both sides of the river.

A Must Do! We ( Joan & I ) always enjoy a leasurely drive in the country. A ferry ride is always an enjoyable experience, especially when its free. An evening trip is the best time especially when on a date. We heartedly reccomend the Buena Vista Ferry for a beautiful relaxing trip.

This is an historic ferry that I have taken since childhood over 50 years total. It is scenic and inexpensive ($3 for autos less for bikes) It connects with a loop to Independence where you can enjoy a wonderful breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the Independence grill where the food and service are excellent.

We enjoy taking our grandchildren on the short jaunt across the river on the ferry. They love to get out of the car and see the ferry and river up close. Before boarding on the east side, be sure to look up at the platform built for the egrets to nest. They come and go with fish they catch in... More

I just love the ride over and back across the Willamette, at any time of year! I prefer to go to and from the west side, leaving my car there , and just riding the waves.

Use it to cross the river. Younger kids think it's fun because it is small. It's nexpensive and quick.

I have to say, we love visiting Salem as it always means we get to go look at property out around independence. I have been a ferry goer for the last three years and always enjoy it! The river is beautiful and the trees lush. Prices fair.

If you haven't traveled the Buena Vista Ferry yet, you should. It has been serving travelers for much longer than I've been in the area, and that's most of 40 years. I used to commute from Monmouth to Scio, teaching in the 80's. Unfortunately, since the new ferry was installed, it is LESS reliable, not more, than it was back... More
