We stopped and looked for sea lions, if they aren't at cape arago, go back one turn out to simpson beach. Lots of sealions, although fairly far away. It is a beautiful drive and close to coos bay. Fun to see the coast.

We visited the park on a day a volunteer had spotting scopes set up at Simpson Reef Overlook. The islands were teeming with seals and their pups, which we were able to photograph using our phone cameras through the lens of the spotting scopes. We...More

Free spectacular view. A short ride from Coos Bay. Also stop at sunset bay. The Oregon coast at its best

You will definitely want to stop at this State park. It is a little out of the way but very scenic. Do yourself a favor and don't drive by without stopping in.

We started at sunset beach and hiked the cliff line. It was amazing to see hidden coves and get a good view of the lighthouse. Next time I'll wear bug spray and better hiking shoes but I will definitely be going again.

Visited late afternoon in April. We were disappointed the beach hike was closed due to pupping season. Highly recommend this spot during the season when the beach hike is open.

Wow! Glad we decided to drive out of our way to see this area. Beautiful rock formations and ocean views. My wife heard a weird noise and we walked down a trail and were able to see some sea lions. They were what she heard....More

We arrived at the park when the sun was shining and the wind was calm. The seals and sea lions were enjoying themselves on the rocks, singing and taking in the heat. The air was clean and the drive up was beautiful. We enjoyed walking...More

It's pretty I like the state parks where the ocean meets the trees, this one also has lots of things too see and explore, great place to take the family

This free area has great views. There is a parkinglot with a few trails leading to overlooks. There are picknick tables and a restroom as well.

Is there a place you can park your car while you explore around? Or is it just like a campsite parking area?

We will be Coos Bays for one night. Arriving around 5PM and leaving the next day. We want to do Whale Watching and visit Tide Pool. What is the best time to do this activities ? We are doing a road trip to Portland and want to stay one night on Oregon's Coast. Is there any other towns that you would recommend to do stay for a night ?

There have been excellent responses to your inquiries. One night on the coast is not enough to see much, btw. Suggest with so little time you just focus on enjoying what is open and available. Suggest against trying to cram... More

Hi, how steep are the trails? I have bad knees so I'm nervous about making the long drive from Seattle and then not being able to really enjoy the park.

Some of the trails are quite steep but plenty are not. Most of them are actually level; running across the top of the cape in one direction or another. It is even possible for people with somewhat limited mobility to access... More
