About
Marvel at the rugged beauty of Cannon Beach against the backdrop of Haystack Rock jutting out of the Pacific coast. Walk on the soft sand all the way to the mouth of Ecola Creek to spot Tillamook Lighthouse at a distance. While you’re at it, don’t miss the Cannon Beach History Center & Museum. You can camp overnight to discover all the attractions in the area; light a bonfire by the beach to stay warm. At low tide, walk out onto the sandbar to get closer to the sea stacks. Visit in June to catch the annual sandcastle contest. – Tripadvisor

    Beautiful beach
We visited Cannon Beach last week, and the weather was cloudy and somewhat windy. But overall this beach was wonderful and very peaceful. It was very clear that this beach is very popular for the locals. The beach was very clean and free of trash. It's a popular tourist destination because during lowtides you can view marine life on the nearby rocks. Our overall experience was awesome, and we will definitely return for another visit in the future.

    Beautiful beach
What a beautiful beach. The beach is long and wide. There is plenty of room for everyone. This is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. There is plenty to do besides seeing haystack rock. This a beautiful beach to watch the sunset as well.

    SOOTHED OUR TRAVEL WEARY SOULS
We had an arduous, delayed flight to Portland from NYC but were able to pick up our van before dark and head to the Coast. Canon Beach did not disappoint! We were disappointed that we lot 3 days of our coast vacation and I just HAD to get to Canon Beach before dark. The town was quiet and shuttered by 7:30pm and the parking lot for the beach was fairly empty. We picked up fish n chips at a local restaurant and headed to the beach. It was foggy and cool as we walked along and found a log to sit on. We felt chilled sitting there, and to our pleasant surprise a lady came over and offered to give us their campfire since they were ready to leave. They even had a few extra logs. We were so touched, and grateful for this random act of kindness. We further enjoyed a campfire on the beach as the sun set through the very thick fog. If you are not familiar with this beach, the sand is very hard packed, the beach is wide, it's a fairly long way to the water. The tide was already up high so we weren't able to walk around tide pools at Haystack Rock. We had a perfect ending to a long stressful day and I loved seeing all the campfires on the beach - it's not something we see on the East Coast.

    My favorite place in Oregon
I absolutely loved Cannon Beach. It’s such a unique and beautiful beach. Yes it’s packed during summer weekends But if you get there a little later in the day the crowds start to thin out and it’s much more manageable. Parking can be tough but if you go off the main drag you’ll find something eventually. My husband and I found a spot not far off and just walked the entire little town. We loved all of the little shops and restaurants. But the beach. We waited for sunset and walked a lot of the beach. That sunset is just…incredible. You have to stay for it. That’s all.

    Nice beach...that's for sure.
Absolutely awesome experience once we got to the beach. Lots of free parking, but be careful as there are lots of opportunities to get ticketed as well. We parked down on West Jackson right next to the beach. We just took off our shoes and walked at least a mile down the beach past Haystack Rock. Nice wide flat beach with trickling waves cooling our toes. Not too crowded. Haystack Rock is a true wonder...a real behemoth. Could easily hang out here all day. A definite MUST on your trip down the Oregon coast.

    Beach Please
From Hawaii to Maine .. The Caribbean and everywhere in between this is one of the most beautiful beaches I have been too. Haystack rock is absolutely stunning and if you get the chance during low tide make sure to go tide pooling. The sand is clean and at night time people have bonfires for miles, Loved It.

    Lovely time at Cannon Beach
We spent an evening and the next day in Cannon Beach. The OR tourist map compared it to Carmel, CA so it had a lot to live up to! We drove to Ecola which was just beautiful, had a nice dinner downtown, saw an elk on the way! The next day was very drizzly/rainy and perfect for a walk on the beach where I collected 3 cool rocks. We went shopping in the fun stores downtown, and then headed southeast to return home. I would love to go again and stay longer!

    Stunning views
Breathtaking beach with Haystack Rock at its center. It was quite windy and misty (probably due to the heat) when we visited but the views more than make up for it. Close to many restaurants and stores in the town as well.

    Spectacular Beach
Visited on a Friday in September. The weather we almost perfect, not a cloud in the sky, but a cool breeze coming from the North. We parked near the government buildings and walked down. Soft sand above the high tide mark, hard-packed sand below that made walking very easy. Saw a few on Beach Bikes and they were having a great time. Haystack Rock is quite a sight, along with the other jagged rocks sticking out of the water. Very photogenic and a great walk!

The beach is very clean and huge, especially at low tide. It has lots of sand for your barefoot toes to sink into. Rocks are more towards the bluff, for combining through. Not many shells. Weird little sea creatures, look like parts of a jellyfish, but it’s not. Hmmm.

Cannon Beach has really changed over the past 30 years. It used to be a quaint little town with the cleanest restaurants, friendliest business owners, and distinctive positive vibe. The only place that has remained true to these ideals is Lazy Susan's Cafe. Other than that, other restaurant's staff are completely indifferent to the needs of the customer. Menu's are generally old and dirty, bathrooms unclean, and food quality substandard. Cannon Beach shops and restaurants now take their customers for granted and to top it off, the City has the gall to charge sales tax on restaurant food in a state that has no sales tax. What is the special need for taxation in a city that has become somewhat average now?

The Hallmark Resort is located directly in front of Haystack Rock. Perfect location, easy walk to beach, weather was in the 60s and sunny blue skies, no crowds, great eats and comfortable bed.

If I had it to do over again, I would have stayed overnight in cute little seaside Cannon Beach town. That way we could have spent more time on the beach of Cannon Beach. We were there a couple of hours and just walked up and down the wide beach, taking pictures, admiring the view. Of course, having Haystack Rock as a backdrop certainly did not hurt. However, I would have liked to come back at different tide levels, different times of daylight, seen a bonfire on the beach, but alas we did not. But nonetheless, we enjoyed the beautiful beach while we were there. It makes my list as one my all time favorite beaches, I’m sure it would make yours too.

We arrived here after exploring ecola state park. I didnt realize cannon beach is a small town, park and you walk to the beach. The day was sunny with a slight breeze, many people there made it better, so you could chill and people watch. The view of haystack rock is the highlight, i photographed it on both sides so you got against the sun and a shadow of it with the sun. This is a really nice place and very clean. We spent about 2 hrs here just strolling the beach and just standing in awe at the surroundings.

We definitely would have enjoyed staying longer at Cannon Beach but parking is very limited. We were able to get out and take a few pictures of the lovely Haystack Rock but the shopping area was extremely crowded with little parking. We went on a weekday thinking we could have more time with less crowding but that was not true.

Cannon Beach is one of my all time faves! So much wildlife here and the beach is huge so you can easily have some space all to yourself if you like. I especially love that the intertidal area around its famous Haystack Rock is protected as one of Oregon’s seven Marine Gardens. And then above that intertidal line, Haystack Rock is protected as part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge!

There are usually lots of volunteer researchers patrolling the protected areas around Haystack Rock to help keep all the creatures safe and educate people bc it gets super crowded - as well as lots of signs explaining the rules and how you can protect all the sea life. They even have QR codes to scan that lead you to research surveys so you can contribute the science and protection of this wonderful ecosystem!

There are some small tide pools here but they’re not the best and the areas around Haystack Rock that have the great tide pools are now closed off due to too much damage from the crowds. You can still see some sea-life around the rock though such as all the vibrant starfish and anemones.

Been coming here for years - and my most recent visit was July 2023 where I discovered the nesting Tufted Puffins and Common Murres! I had no idea there were so many seabird colonies here! And I even witnessed some bird drama when one of the resident Bald Eagles flew down and snatched a baby bird right up off the rock for an easy meal!! TWICE!!

The Rock has been in lots of films - most notably The Goonies. The ocean is just gorgeous- that minty blue way off in the distance. The beach is surprisingly clean given the crowds.

The beach is easy to find and access. There’s lot of free public parking scattered around the town but in the busy season you may have to wait a while so plan ahead. The town also has lots of art galleries, restaurants and shops within walking distance of the beach and a lovely farmers market once a week right across from the beach. There are public restrooms at the beach entrance as well.
