I hike a lot but I would recommend driving to the top. Otherwise it’s a very dry steep climb. At the top,is a great 360 view along with several information panels. In the center is a guide to all the visible peaks. Given how accessible...More

We arrived about an hour before sunset and had no problems parking. By sunset time there was quite a crowd--maybe 40 people, all friendly and behaving nicely. There was a cheer when the sun finally disappeared. There are bathrooms and trash cans here. I recommend...More

We aren't big hikers to the person in the hotel suggested we head to Pilot Butte. It was a terrific recommendation as we could see the mountains all around us and get oriented for our other excursions.

We started going up the mountain which is a hairy ride because the road is very narrow but once you get there, it is just beautiful. You can see a 360 degree view of the city and surrounding areas and all the different mountains. It...More

Take a short hike or shuttle in the summer to ascend to the top. Unobstructed view of the area from the city Bend to little cinder cones to the 3,000m+ Three Sisters.

The path up the Butte wasn't too bad from my perspective, although other visitors thought it was kind of stressful (they should try the road to Paulina's Peak). Really great views not only of Bend, but the great mountains surrounding the area--so highly recommend. We...More

After an active day, we drove up at sunset. It was a perfect sunny day fading into sunset and afterglow and from hot to mild. There were mountains on all sides, the Cascades to the West and the Ochoko to the East. You can see...More

Hiked to the summit with a 2.5 year old and plenty of treats incentives. Definitely glad to hike the trail in the morning before summer temps climbed past 90F. An easy trail for all 3 generations and a great view at the top.

It was a little scary driving up with no guard rails, but it was a short ride to the top, and worth it for the great view. Only takes a few minutes, so it's well worth a slight detour or side trip.

If you start from the trailhead parking lot, time wise 30 minutes or less each direction. Just Under 2 miles round trip.
