A National Treasure in downtown Oklahoma City. The American Banjo Museum contains over 300 banjos on display and is the only museum of its type dedicated to preserving and promoting the music and heritage of America's native musical instrument - the banjo. An interpretive exhibit tells the evolution of the banjo from its humble roots in American slavery, to bluegrass, to folk and world music.

This was more entertaining than I expected. An incredible collection of banjos and lots of interesting facts and figures. We spent an hour and a half here, and enjoyed it a great deal. If you have some time to kill in OKC, a visit is worthwhile. Located in Bricktown, so very easy in and out.

A very interesting and fun place to stop after lunch. It is not that experience and the banjos are beautiful. The history was great too. A must see if in the area.

The American Banjo Museum is located in the Bricktown district. Entrance fee is $8 ($2 off discount vouchers in tourist books). There was a nice gentleman working the counter and he explained the set-up of the museum. The tour starts with a seven minute audio recording about the history of the banjo. The main level has a display of banjos... More

WE visited the museum with the thought we might entertain in their meeting space, which is a recreation of a Shakey's Pizza Parlor, right down to the player piano. The museum itself is easy to navigate, visually very engaging, and all around an interesting stop. We learned some things and enjoyed the recordings of many artists. A fun afternoon was... More

I had no idea what to expect when I entered the front doors of the Banjo Museum. Our visit lasted about an hour and it was time well spent. There are videos to watch as well as hundreds of banjos displayed. Across from the gift shop that actually sells banjos. there is also a "petting zoo" where you can try... More

I'm from the South, so my knowledge of the banjo is mainly from a few Opry performances I've attended in Nashville. When I saw this museum, I was curious. So, my sister and I paid the $6 entrance fee and were told the museum Director, Johnny Baier was playing in a performance area on the 2nd floor. We took the... More

If you are only mildly interested in banjos, this will be a quick museum. The history of banjos video at the start in interesting as is the Steve Martin one they currently have. Beyond that there are just a lot of banjos. Not for little kids.
