The objects made for interesting photos. There was an educational presentation when we arrived, which made the visit more interesting. Lots of reading and listening to recordings. The history of slavery and underground railroad gave a lot of insight into the local history, as did the description of the local shipping trade. Did not know how the area was a... More

Excellent small museum. Lots of Great Lakes related items. Friendly staff. We became members. Lots of parking. Located on the lakeshore next to the Sandusky Sailing Basin

Overall it was a neat place but very small. It was a cool reminder of the nautical history of Lake Erie.

This museum contained a lot of history of the area and especially its relationship to Lake Erie. There was also some information on the Underground Railroad which was in the area.

We stopped in on a rainy day to see all of the interesting items. The museum is on one floor and is able to be viewed by everyone. An interesting hands on activity is trying to cut the ice with a saw! Our granddaughter had a hard time trying to cut it but we all had a new appreciation for... More

It was International Museum Day so we stopped here as part of our museum-hopping. Various exhibits from pirates to various types of ships to the Underground Railroad. All on one floor so very handicapped accessible. Bring your camera. There's a gift shop with various souvenirs, most were reasonably priced. Staff was very friendly as well :) Not sure if there... Learned a lot about how big the fish and ice industry was back in the Ohio day. A very nice museum. Be sure and find the little theatre inside and sit and watch the video. Well worth the stop. Husband was so mesmerized by a display that included a steel mouth trap used for nagging wives that he took a... More

My husband and I were driving from NJ to Chicago for the holidays and I decided to stop somewhere for the night that had some Holiday event. Chose Sandusky since it had good restaurants, a nice B&B and the Maritime museum with a special event for the holidays. On line it says holiday hours, on the area's tourist website it... More

Take the time to stop in and see this museum. Great for the whole family. Super place to visit on a rainy day instead of Cedar Point
