I had the opportunity to visit the museum during the bicentennial celebration of Oliver Hazard Perry's victory of the British in 1813. Although the museum appears to be small it is packed with information about the history of Put-In-Bay and the other Lake Erie islands, especially Perry's victory. I spent three hours there touring it and taking pictures. The curators... More

A nice break from the crowds when you are on the island. Its a look back in time of the life and times of South Bass Island.

Enjoyed the special exhibit of waterfowl decoys, shot guns, duck calls and history of the carvers who made them. A local island carver was featured in the collection. The decoys were from the many shooting clubs including Winous Point one oldest in North America. The director of museum did outstanding job in this special exhibit that will available until the... This little museum is packed with history of the island. The movie is informative and the displays are educational regarding the families who lived on the island and the historical items which have remained as relics. The staff was extremely helpful and delighted in telling us about the town.

Enjoyed learning about the history of the Island - recommend taking the time to watch the movie. Their little shop in the back puts proceeds back into the museum...neat idea!

This place was a great find with tons of island history. Will be back because we did not even begin to explore. (We ran out of time)

My wife and I spent approximately 30 minutes learning the history of put in bay. The most memorable was the history of the hotel victory the worlds largest summer hotel that burned in the late 1800s. It's size was emits the dining room could seat at one time 2000 people for dinner

Selection of books on local history in the bookstore. Clean space with small home made theater playing historic video on loop. Neat artifacts from the Hotel Victory that burned down in the early 1900's. Knowledgeable staff can answer questions or give you advice on where to go locally. If you have a few minutes to spare, check out the thrift... More

Lots of exhibits showcasing the island. The short film was also very informative. There was also a video running about the Victory Hotel which I found very interesting.
