Wonderful 2 days of making memories!
Apr 2021
We LOVED our trip to the Columbus Zoo! We did the special experience where you go to Hanna's Village and meet the ambassador animals. It was amazing! The young lady who was our guide was friendly and well-informed and very interesting. The animals all seemed to be active and happy throughout the zoo. We were disappointed that we were not given a map and had to keep finding one of the bill board maps, which was not always convenient. I do not see how having paper maps available helps to spread COVID. COVID should not be used as an excuse for poor customer service. I was with 2 handicapped family members and the extra walking to find a map was very difficult and unnecessary. Thank you for a great visit and your staff members, from zookeepers, security, shop personnel, and guides, all went above and beyond! Kind, friendly, informative, and helpful!

Overpriced, overhyped a serious disappointment
Apr 2021
Having been lucky enough to visit dozens of zoos across the country, has great hopes and expectations for the purported " #1 zoo in the country." $10 for parking and a discounted $16.99 admission were borderline theft. Understanding the early time of year and ever-evolving COVID impacts and restrictions our expectations were tempered, but the zoo still failed to even come close. Staff seemed disinterested and bothered by visitors. Every ten feet there was an upsell opportunity; but this or pay for that. Families with children must endure a constant barrage of money grabs. Numerous exhibits were under construction, many more were unimpressive and many animals not on exhibit. All of this could be more understandable, but there is no effort on the part of the zoo or staff to forewarn visitors. Visited 3 other zoos on our vacation and sadly the Columbus zoo ranked last for experience, value and desire to return.

We visit the Zoo for one day in April and were very pleased with the visit. We paid a bit extra and did the cheetah encounter ($99 each in addition to the entry ticket) and had a blast with it. It was really something to interact with the keepers and to see how much care they have for the animals and how much prep work goes into caring for them behind the scenes. The visit lasted about 4 hours (1 hour with the cheetahs) and we did everything except for Bob Evans farm. Almost everyone had masks on and the policy was being enforced from time to time for those that didn't have one on. The electronic tickets worked well, and i was able to make do with the map that was opened via QR code upon entry. There is a good bit of construction throughout the park and some of the exhibits are only open on the weekends- so be forewarned. That said there was plenty to see and do as the zoo is larger than most in the region.

We are a family who enjoys visiting zoos. The Columbus Zoo was our first visit for the 2021 year. The bad - No Maps or an App with a map. You can scan a code and have a map open from the website which is pointless because you can not see much on it. Bring printed maps back. I did ask several staff for directions and got great directions! -Going early in Spring the staffing levels are low, so on a week day there were three shops we found open but low stock due to staffing. I’m going to guess the same with food vendors low staff, so only 2 major locations were open, Food Court with 2 vendors open and Lakeside with long lines. Good thing you can bring snacks and food in. That’s a nice perk. Perhaps HR needs to project that in April you’ve got Spring Breaks and be staffed better. -Going early in the year the animals are just starting to come back out from being indoors all winter. Positive lots of cute baby animals. -Due to COVID many areas are blocked off and unable to get close to glass or fence as exhibit is designed which is disheartening. -Australian area is under construction and no signs indicating when will be reopened. Sad to miss the orangutans. Positive- Very carefully and well designed/thought out animal spaces. -Many unique animals in the North American exhibit -Unique Polar Bear underwater viewing area -Unique Seal/Sea Otter exhibit -water tunnel -Elephants are fun to watch in “natural” habitat.

Awful
Apr 2021
We went to the Columbus zoo with an excitement of Jack Hannah’s advertisement of how nice the zoo was. Well it was like a normal day very crowded. People not wearing mask and only one food area opened but the lines were horrible and there was no social distancing. I don’t feel that this zoo was worth the money we paid. Went in thinking it was going to be awesome but some animal enclosures were way to small like the cheetahs barely room to run. I know we will not go back to this zoo. We live 3 1/2 hours from there and not knowing that concession stands were not open even for water that’s a shame and for Jack Hannah representing this zoo he should be ashamed of himself. I love zoo’s and I like watching Jack but he needs to do a lot of improvements.

Do not waste your time
Apr 2021
Avoid at all costs. We went on Sunday, traveling a few hours to visit the zoo. We assumed it would be a safe family friendly experience. 1) The mask requirement is neither adhered to or enforced. Employees allowed non mask wearing individuals into exhibits and buildings. 2) Social distancing is a joke everywhere. I was expecting it to be followed in lines for the train, food, etc...it wasn't. 3) The African area large exhibit had zero animals. No giraffes or zebras in site. Many of the exhibits looked abandoned overall, not just the areas under construction. I would not waste my time going. If you are concerned for your personal health or the safety of your children, please avoid this zoo at all costs.

Zoo Membership
Apr 2021 • Friends
We got a membership to visit throughout the year, and it has been worth every penny! It’s nice to go in during less busy times and walk around outside for an hour or so during the day. They always have something new going on, and I love their new sea lion exhibit. If you’re going to go more than once a year, I highly recommend the membership.

Make the drive to the Cincinnati Zoo instead
Mar 2021 • Family
Worst zoo experience I have ever had!!! Even my 11 & 12 year old daughters were disappointed and wanted to leave after an hour. Many of the exhibits were closed - but they don't tell you that on the website - the enclosures were not what I have come to expect - they used distracting fencing, not open enclosures like Cincinnati, and I was upsold a "rides and more" wristband at checkout but was only able to take advantage of the train which was $2/person - I paid $10/person for the wristband. When you visit their website it says the wristband option is currently unavailable but when you checkout a pop up window opens and gives you the option to purchase - stating more is available than what is actually open (only the train, carousel, and 4d theatre are open). I understand they're doing renovations to several parts of the zoo but that should be made clear on the website (it was not) because many of the animals were not on exhibit due to entire exhibits being closed (and not short term closed, they had fences and signage up that had been in place for awhile), and the wristband should not be sold until they modify the available attractions or open what is advertised. I traveled 2.5 hours to the zoo and feel very cheated. The only positive I found was that the animals that were out were active and playful rather than just sleeping. I contacted the zoo and requested a refund of $24 as we only rode the train once and was met with "we don't give refunds" and was offered discounts for another visit however I'm 2.5hrs away. I emailed back and told them that wasn't a viable option and Eliza Lee (who responded to my initial request) has not responded and seemed rather unconcerned - very bad customer service and public relations. I work in advertising and marketing and suggested they update these issues on the website and ordering portal and no changes have been made there either. Very disappointing experience, will not be back. *They do have a cute sea turtle in their aquarium

birthday at the zoo
Mar 2021
My wife wanted to go to the zoo for her birthday, we had a very enjoyable time, we went there at our booked time and got right in, we got to see lots of animals, the were a few animals not out but we got to see what we wanted to to see. loins, tigers cheetahs, bears, apes, chimps, monkeys, birds, giraffes, and a baby Koloa bear, and much more, it did get busy later in the afternoon but people were wearing masks and trying to keep apart, the staff were also going around and kindly reminding to keep the masks on properly, will have to go back again, we enjoyed this visit.

Waste of Money
Mar 2021 • Couples
My husband and I went to the zoo yesterday, a nice Sunday in Spring. Online they say they limit crowds. They didn’t. It was not only horribly crowded, but as soon as guests get through the gate, the masks come off. And beware, the African section was closed with no mention on the internet. Unfortunately for us, that was our primary reason for going. We left very shortly after arriving wasting our parking fee and entrance fees.
