We intended to go to Hocking Hills State Park and got lost. So we ended up at Tar Hollow. On a late October day it could not have been more beautiful. We took a leisurely walk along the lake which provided ample opportunity four photos and selfies. Even though we were not camping, there were a number of occupied campsites... More

Hiked the north loop day 1 and south loop day 2 while staying in the backpack camp. I love the beauty of Tar Hills and this was a great weekend to see the early autumn leaves. The only thing I did not enjoy was the new trails on the south loop, made because of all the logging. it's like a... More

Love Tar Hollow. Only an hour from Columbus and makes us feel like we're back in WV were we are from with out the long drive. Fishing in the small lake is just so so. The trails are great. Not well maintained gravel trails. These are good old dirt trails with colored markers on the trees. They have been doing... More

I'm a 26 year old male who enjoys nature, and just wanted to camp and hike for a long weekend. So I made a reservation and drove my Honda Accord down and my cooler and some beef jerkey and some smokes and embarked and the most forgettable adventure of my life. The park generally... Meh. There is a general store... More

We usually stay at Old Mans Cave but could not get a reservation for this past weekend. Tar Hollow was close enough to enjoy the area. Paid 8bucks extra for a reservation. Got to the park and checked in. Went to our site and someone already had their camp set up. They were told to go find a spot then... More

Stopped here to fish, but ended up renting a small paddle boat for an hour and walking the trail around the small lake. Tar hollow is a gorgeous spot that offers camping, fishing, putt putt and more, but seems to be more of a commercial campground than a state park.

Majestic trees greet you at the entrance to Tar Hollow State Park. They are tall, I mean really tall. Taller than any stand of trees I’ve experienced in Ohio (see pics). I am here to hike the northern half of the 18-mile figure eight Tar Hollow trail that is included in the guide book "50 Hikes in Ohio" by Ralph... More

Campground is a little overcrowded, they let people park tons of cars on one site. Toilets are abysmal, bring your own! The family attractions and gift shop are nice though. The trails are the best part. They are very nice and some even lead to a fire tower you can climb, you just can't get into the top section. Would... More

This park had a lot to do. The hiking trails were nice and they had many. This park offered boat rental, bike rental, nature programs for children, and a beach .A nice park for tents, we were in a motorhome and getting level on wet grass wasn't easy. The campsites are very close, you are basically within arms length away... More

While other nearby State Parks book up faster due to destination attractions, the park accommodations were quite adequate and less crowded. During the week in AUG., we were alone in our section of the park. on Friday it filled up and Saturday was full. Showers were good but no flush toilets in the park, so Back to Nature. Speaking of...
