The Tanners Arms ale house features six handpulls which carry all-local real ales, judiciously chosen, fastidiously kept and a pleasure to sup; a good selection of whiskies to warm and revive every palate; regular live music sessions of all varieties; the most eclectic jukebox in Northumberland; and most important of all, a friendly, laid-back environment full of good crack and camaraderie. A good old-fashioned English pub, and a pleasant spot to while away an evening…

From the moment we entered the door we were welcomed by the bar lady who was full of craic and quality advice on drinks. We were immediately impressed by the variety of ales and single malts available in a relatively small bar. The warm, wood-burning stove made the place cozy and homely on a cold, wet, autumnal afternoon. We settled... More

A small, well stocked traditional Pub, with a fantastic selection of music to suit all tastes in the Juke Box. Warm real log burner keeps the place snug in the Autumn, Winter and Spring. Well kept real ale. Look for the 'piggy corner' .

This is what all pubs should be like, coal fire, dog friendly and six real ales all from local breweries. Comfortable surroundings and warm on what was a miserable night. Make the effort to find this place.

Poped in for a glass and to get out of the rain. Quirky little pub with a good choice of well kept craft ales and a log fire. Dogs and children welcome. Well worth a vist short walk from the town centre

No food here other than crisps, nuts, etc. but good cask ales (according to my husband) varying in strength and types of beer from multiple breweries. They serve spirits and wines too (and probably soft drinks). Great prices. The main part of the lovely stone building was originally a tannery, and then became the tannery pub when that moved next... The promise of a range of real ales justified the uphill walk to reach the Tanners. On arrival folk night was in full swing and proved to be great entertainment - thoroughly recommended. The range singers, songs and instruments seemed to be endless, and the locals were happy for their visitors to join in whatever they may have thought of... More

Nice friendly little community pub with a good choice of excellent real ale. I sat at the bar with some of the locals and passed the time of day in their company. Most enjoyable, traditional and genuine taste of England in a lovely old town.

It's not huge and it's a bit like being in someone's front room with all the seating round the edges but it feels very cosy and friendly. Range of real ales and a wood burning stove for winter. Juke box has a range including rock and metal but volume not loud so everyone can hear conversations. One toilet for the... More

A cosy pub serving a selection of real ales from six hand pumps. All the beers are from local breweries. Fantastic juke box, nice people.

Regular reviewers should be allowed an extra star or a 'golden buzzer'. This place deserves a 'golden extra star buzzer'. Good pub crack. Comfortable feel to the place- quite happy sitting and drinking perfect beer with my family. Worth seeking out. Photo to follow.
