Not a ruin but an unfinished Elizabethan lodge with a fascinating story. You approach from the car park to see this unusual shell of a building. At the National Trust office tucked away behind a little cottage you can get audio tapes to tell the...More

It looks like a ruin, but is acctualy a house that isn't finished. The story why it wasn't finished and that the owner kept track of the building activities while he was exiled is very impressive. I can really recommend the audio tour, very interesting....More

A ruin set in lovely countryside, take a picnic in good weather and you wouldn't be disappointed. Good space for children to run around.

Only had time for a quick walk round. Enjoyable even so including the moat and the wood. Lots of explanations. Excellent soup in the cafe and usual NT sandwich. Just love the countryside around this area. Will be back to walk around more.

What an interesting visit. Audio Guides are a must and extremely informative. We arrived too late to use the tea shop that looked very inviting but sampled the ice creams available at the visitor centre. Lovely walks enjoyed.

A small, unfinished, 17th century lodge does not sound the most fascinating of visits, but we spent several hours there - not least because the lodge itself - the "New Bield" - is just a small part of the day. Its fascinating in itself, though....More
