Run by English heritage we felt that it was well overpriced just an outside wall of the castle left gardens really none existent tiny shop only thing was the tower from which if you were able to climb to the top had magnificent views

A visit and walk round the walls is well worth the effort, make sure you climb to the top of the keep, the view is amazing.

another castle you say. yes it was built in the era of 1070 but the keep which was built 200 years later is the difference. you can walk so far up the original spiral stairs and then gain access all the way to the top,...More

Great place to visit very friendly and informed staff. Picnic tables as well if you want to bring some food. Excellent views of the surrounding area and doggy friendly.

This castle is a old ruined castle ! So not much to see expect what used to be and embrace the history ! Nice castle climb with stunning views of Richmond and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside ! Worth the visit ! Plus a lovely picnic...More

It should be possible if you leave quite early in the day. You would need to catch a train from Kings Cross to Darlington and then a direct bus from Darlington to Richmond. The train journey is about 2.5 hours being a high... More

There are a lot of steps, about 2-3 storeys but they are straight and fairly even so not too bad.
