This old Cinque Port church (Cinque Ports were the five harbour towns on the south coast which in Medieval times provided the king with ships and men in exchange for trading and other privileges) is a local landmark. Much of today's building dates from 800 years ago, though it has been altered many times. The handsome tower with its distinctive onion dome top is a 17th-century addition - built by Flemish protestant refugees, in the style of their homeland churches. The dome would have been in place when American Founding Father Thomas Paine was married at St Peter's in 1759. There was once a Norman church on the site and traces of masonry from this building can still be seen at the west end.

Lovely church in a beautiful location in the heart of Sandwich. Great architecture and a lovely place to visit and reflect on the past. Whilst it is now classified as a 'redundant' church, it remains consecrated and an annual Christmas Eve communion service is held there along with a Witness Procession from the church to St Clement's every Palm Sunday.... St. Peters has now opened the bell tower to visitors. If in Sandwich don't miss the opportunity to climb the tower and experience the panoramic views from the top of the tower. During the climb you can see the inner workings of the clock and look down on the bells. It only costs £5 per person and is open from... More

A fascinating church, well worth a visit. Lovely architecture with a good little second hand bookshop at the back. We arrived to late to climb the tower but were assured that the views were well worth it.

The recent opening of the Church Tower to the public has proven to be a master-stroke as a trip up Haven Heights is a must when visiting the beautiful town of Sandwich. The cost is reasonable as the views are quite simply breath-taking when you finally reach the top. It shows the town in an entirely new light and there... More

St Peter's church has now opened the bell tower roof for tourists & public alike to visit. A big congratulations should go to the organisers for granting access and doing so at a relatively cheap price. St Peter's has quite a steep & narrow staircase to navigate to the first stage where you can see the magnificent clockworks that run... More

A small but picturesque Church, with a tower to climb (narrow stair well) Open 10 till 4 most days. It was lovely to be able to walk round and take photos (a lot of churches that old ban the use of cameras & videos) Churches are not normally my cup of tea, however I'm really pleased I nipped in and...
