THIS is a PROPER pub !
Sep 2020
THIS is a PROPER pub ! I was one a two day stop over in Deal - found this on first evening's exploratory walk. Was going to pop in on second evening - just for one but stayed for an hour plus in conversation was several of the locals. So, the beer is good - a decent range of ale, soft music, no fripperies ..... and conversation. that's what it it is all about for me. I guess it could be considered an 'old mans pub' but there are plenty catering for a younger, noisier constituency and fewer and fewer of pubs with traditional values.

Friendly traditional pub
Sep 2020
A proper local pub but everyone welcome. Very friendly staff & helpful. Socially distanced tables & sanitizer near the bar. Rear garden but down a lot of steps. Beer was local plus other beers. Beer was excellent & well kept.

Lovely old original pub, needs experienced staff to serve a much better pint.
Aug 2020
The landlord here should employ persons with an engaging personality and communication skills who are sufficiently interested in their job to make a customer feel welcome and want to stay for more than one quick pint and who have the knowledge and care to pull a good pint. Yesterday, on a extremely hot day I was served the worst pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord I have ever been sold , flat and lifeless, no head at all , by two disinterested female bar staff. A great pity and a profound disappointment as I love a pint of Landlord and the pub is superb, unpretentious and original. When I visit again I hope I will have a better experience .

Terrible bar staff
Jul 2020
What should have been a nice drink in a nice pub ended up one of the most miserable times I've spent in a pub; on entry the man behind the bar (i assume the landlord) was totally miserable and near enough acting hostile at times.

Good Beer Nice atmosphere

Regularly go to the Ship Inn. A real original pub. Small, atmospheric and excellent beer.
For a local experience, try it. Happy hour from 1730hrs to 1800hrs.

Nice little find
Mar 2020
Took the dog over Deal for some chips and a walk along the seafront. On the way back to the carpark saw this pub dog friendly so popped in for a drink.Quite busy not nosiy though.Drinks were very reasonable nice choice best of all the drinks were poured in a glass that was appropiate to the beer "sometimes pubs just give you a pint glass whatever the beer/lager is.A sign on the door says no buggies or pushchairs great no little darlings running around while parents drink! Lastly on leaving the barmaid made a point of saying bye will def be back.

The best pub I ever visited
Sep 2019 • Couples
We popped in on our way back to our place Of stay on a wet day in sept - the pub was gorgeous , untouched in years, like stepping back in time - the barman was what you want friendly - obviously a locals pub - we loved it- we sat in the back and earwigged conversations in the front bar - would defo recommend to people who love a proper pub with no frills - just as pubs used to be - lovely wooden floors and old furniture and memorabilia on the walls - if you want scampi in a basket with a white wine I’m sure another pub in deal would be a better choice but if you want a pint and a bag of nuts this place does the job !

Rude staff, including the landlord/manager. Customers smoking weed in the garden and staff chose to ignore.
