My husband and I stayed in the smaller hut while my sister in law and her fiancee stayed in the larger middle one. It was the most enjoyable and cosy weekend away with it being a great base to explore the New Forest and the huts having everything you could need for a true 'sleep in the forest' experience. We... This pub came recommended by people we rent a local cottage from on a regular basis. To say the welcome was not what we expected would be an understatement. When asked a few days later by the people who recommended the pub how we got on I was actually too embarrassed for them to tell the truth. We called in... More

we visited the Royal Oak after a very long and wet walk across the moors and woods nearby, having seen this pub in the good beer guide we thought we would give it a try!! What a delightful find it was, the food is absolutely great, fresh local produce, we had ploughmans and a pork pie salad both of which... More

We have just had two wonderful nights, staying in one of the three Shepherd's Huts behind the gorgeous Royal Oak pub. Superbly equipped, with everything you could possibly need for a glamping experience in the heart of the beautiful New Forest. Each hut has its own little wood burning stove, which provides unbelievable warmth and makes it immensely cosy. The... More

We found the Royal Oak on a drive out through the New Forest. The car park was closed, but we parked ok on the street by the pub. We found a table by the open log fire and settled in to look at the menu. The bar was busy but service was quick and friendly. We ordered salads with homemade... More

We stayed for three nights in the Shepherds Huts behind the pub. The welcome was warm, helpful and unobtrusive . The quality of the Huts are superb, the setting is beautiful , access to the Forest is easy , and the ploughmans and beer were outstanding. The whole point of a ploughmans ( in my humble opinion) is that it's... More

Its good to find a pub that serves proper old fashioned pub lunches like plowman's, quiche, sausage rolls, all home cooked and prepared. The plowman's lacks some spark, just lettuce and tomato which is undressed and appears to have been set out in advance. The chutney is pleasant but the white onions, lightly pickled are unusual. The cheeses are tasty... More

This pub is not advertised and when following google maps I was a bit dubious when we went past a "dead end" road sign! Obviously not a well guarded secret as it was packed by the time we were leaving. The menu is ploughman's - all different varieties and although at the time, neither of us thought much of the...
