A beautiful oasis of peace and calm in the centre of Romsey. For a small market town the abbey (which before Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries was the church of a Benedictine nunnery) is on a grand scale, and well worth exploring and absorbing the atmosphere of worship. Nearest convenient parking is the 2 off-street pay-and-display car-parks in Lortemore Place... More

Lived near Romsey for years and never visited the Abbey. Had some American friends over for a holiday and thought they might enjoy it. Spent nearly 2 hours going round the place. They loved I, so did we

We have family living in Romsey but had never heard of the Abbey. I happened to have a spare hour to walk around the town during my visit early in the New Year and I so wish I had had more time. This is an interesting building from the outside and spectacular on the inside - at least I think... More

We visited the Abbey from Kent and attended the carol service on 18/12/16. People were friendly and welcoming and the Abbey itself is incredibly beautiful. The service was attended by around 800 we understand, and this provided great atmosphere and a beautiful start to Christmas. The choir were the highlight of the service and made the most fabulous sound in... More

I liked this abbey a lot. There was lots of historical information to be got. It is in excellent condition. And is still in regular use, more than 800 years after construction.

It is always a pleasure to walk round this magnificent Abbey. It has a sense of peace all of its own. The volunteer staff a very friendly and helpful. If you would like twenty minutes of peace to escape from this busy world , I would recommend you go in take a seat and feel the peace, which passes all understanding.

Very historical, beautiful windows, but didn't find a leaflet on who, what or when they were designed and made, just saying. Contrary to other reviewers, I like the fact that the stewards approach and offer help, they can direct you to a peaceful place for prayer etc. Some of the banners, made by church members, were extraordinary. Certainly worth a... More

A wonderful building full of atmosphere. I am a frequent visitor to concerts and a sometime church goer. The advent service was packed . A beautiful traditional occasion. Everyone is really friendly. A huge contrast with Winchester Cathedral However it could be even nicer if those welcoming visitors were a little less enthusiastic. Often a visit is for a quiet... More

Not visited the Abbey for many years and had forgotten what a beautiful and interesting building it is. One of the guides approached us and gave us lots of interesting history on the building and the graves / memorials within. Our visit coincided with a rehearsal for a recital which was just lovely to sit and listen to. If you... More
