Far from a relaxing experience.! Felt stressed and unpampered throughout the so called Luxury Day Spa day experience. Basically paid £149 for a meagre breakfast, lunch and a 'local council' standard pool!! The place was absolutely packed with people - a real superspreader venue!!! There were no seats or beds left to sit on. One of the heated lounge rooms with beds and blankets was so full of people it resembled a roman orgy. Space around the pool was very tight and there were no chairs to just leave your robe or to relax on. The Thalasso pool was an 'extra' treatment costing £20, which was basically a pool with a few different areas of bubbles focussing on parts of the body, At other luxury spas I have been to, this areas is accessible for all and not an added paid extra. All steam rooms and saunas were full. Some of the bubble pools were not working correctly and the whole place looks like it needs a good coat of paint and a spruce up.
The breakfast buffet was very meagre, we had to request gluten free items as there were none labelled available and no plates to serve ourselves. We had to ask a number of times for a plate. The lunch was quite nice. The classes we wanted to do were fully booked and some did not have a staff member. The changing rooms again were very busy with not enough changing areas. The whole day felt so stressful and unenjoyable, especially compared to other spas I have attended. Would definitely not go there again or recommend to anyone. Total rip off!!!

If you wish to telephone Champneys Forest Mere Spa, don't bother, whether it is to book or ask a question, as I have spent 40 minutes in total waiting for a reply and it never came. If they can't answer due to lack of staff etc. it would be courteous to leave a message to call back later

In a wonderful setting, Forest Mere gave my wife and I an exceptionally relaxing and thoroughly pampering experience during our recent stay. The food was superb at every meal, the staff knowledgeable and courteous and there was clearly something available for everyone regardless of how they wanted to spend their time. I cannot wait to return. A truly special experience.

I visited Champneys Forest Mere last Sunday with my stepdaughter for her first ever spa day as a birthday treat. I'm a big fan of pampering and she's been waiting for a long time to be old enough to come with me. Champneys did not disappoint!
A great morning in the spa facilities including outdoor hydro pool, followed by a delicious 3 course lunch. We then spent the afternoon relaxing in our prebooked treatments and even managed to squeeze in a stretch and relax fitness class to end the day perfectly. Thank you so much to all the team for excellent service and hospitality, we'll be back!

An amazing weekend, thoroughly enjoyed all the spa facilities and classes, they catered for 10 of us perfectly. We would like in particular to thank David, the assistant manager in the restaurant, for making all our meals so special. He went above and beyond to look after us and provided an amazing service! We can’t thank him enough, incredible hospitality.

The spa was a bit run down in areas, paintwork and general TLC was needed, I definitely feel that I overpaid for the facilities on hand as a day spa guest. Lack of fresh towels and maintenance in the changing rooms meant that things felt unkempt, especially with laundry baskets overfilling with wet towels and robes. The experience didn’t feel particularly luxurious at all. Selection of treatment rooms (steam/sauna/ice room) were nice but the steam room in the ladies’ had a funny smell and felt a bit run down/dirty.

‘Light bites’ on arrival were appreciated as we’d travelled to the spa but we were not offered drinks or given any direction throughout the day. Very much a “here’s your towel and get on with it” kind of experience. Lunch wasn’t anything special, felt like mass prepared food dished out canteen style.

All in all, wouldn’t return/recommend to a friend.

We paid over £600 a night to stay in a suite here for a few days of long overdue rest and recovery. The room: a spacious double with a good-sized sofa and chair to relax in but it’s a stretch to call it a suite. Also a small balcony with furniture that’s seen better days and floor that had not been cleaned in years. So far, not great. The room definitely needs a lick of paint (peeling off doors/windows and the wall around the bathroom door), some door/window furniture broken, and the bathroom needed some touching up too - regrouting, removal/replacement of peeling anti-slip material in the bath. More deep cleaning too. The towel rail was thick with dust. Bed linens were good, changed frequently and beautifully pressed, so day to day housekeeping in the room was good - it’s the more painstaking/deeper cleaning I doubt the staff has time for.

With the exception of Reception (who seemed at best indifferent/robotic, arrival being an exercise form filling rather than any discernible welcome), staff were almost universally cheerful, kind and incredibly hard-working. This resort has some very loyal team members who really care. But they are run off their feet and the resort is understaffed post COVID.

Spa treatments were good. The class I joined was fine. The booking system for appointments in advance is awkward and nothing I booked showed up on the app (cue the supreme indifference from reception, who were unable to print or acquire a list of our treatments for us, flapping a hand vaguely in the direction that led to the spa/fitness centre so we could sort it out for ourselves, plus book times for a swim). We were then pointed down a corridor towards the accommodation and set off on our own, dragging our bags. Lift was broken.

By the time we arrived, almost everything in the spa was booked up, so advance efforts to hack into the system for the spa are crucial. They also operate a strange system of reserving your mealtimes - this can only be done one meal ahead at a time and in person in the restaurant. Why not just let people book their meals in the normal way?

Now for the notable downsides - the food is generally poor and made me think of motorway services. We were hungry and we ate it but I’d expect better in our local pub. And it’s not notably healthy/fresh. It was nothing like the great food served in the heyday of Champneys Tring, which was both healthy and delicious. Here there are very few salads/high quality fresh ingredients. “Half a grapefruit” comes from a tin. Some food items are clearly pre-prepared in quantities, and it shows. Think thin pre-sliced cheese covered in beads of condensation. The same short lunch and dinner menus were served all three days of our stay (there’s one starter for lunch daily - soup - and one main salad). Vegetables sides are quite sparse (broccoli every day for lunch and dinner, guest appearance from green beans at dinner) are come at extra cost at dinner. A cooked breakfast e.g. poached egg on toast, is an extra charge. All our meals bar one were served in the same cafe. The menu was identical on the occasion where we ate in the other restaurant - which is basically just another room (small, better furnished, more elegant), but they didn’t have enough staff to open it more than once. The kitchen ran out of butter one day and vinegar the next. I suspect some of the problems with food service stem from staffing issues post-COVID/Brexit, but not all. Ingredients are cheap, with a few exceptions, and this is the bottom line.

The facilities - outdoor swimming pool is very closed indeed (this wasn’t made clear when we booked) and I doubt it will be open for a good while. The outdoor terrace is grubby and needs a) deep cleaning/jet wash etc and b) more regular cleaning/clearing through the day to remove used crockery/glassware and wipe tables (staffing issues again - the staff worked very hard, they just can’t do it all). The cafe service for coffee/soft drinks etc through the day closes late pm. This is also where day guests are given something to eat - when they arrive I think (these snack plates were pre-plated and stacked up on an open table in the guest space beside the cafe counter, rather then assembled to order in the kitchen/kept clean behind the serving counter. There’s no bar where you can be served a drink or coffee after dinner, so the place is pretty atmosphere-free. The indoor poor/jacuzzi area - downstairs and separate from the spa services - were OK but can be crowded and noisy. More like your local leisure centre. Wet towels need clearing, floors need to be mopped etc. There’s not much sense of serenity and calm about the place. Outside, things are a little dilapidated and buildings need maintenance. There was a large shattered glass window, taped up, during our stay.

As someone who was a longtime fan of Champneys Tring (from before it was taken over by the current owner admittedly), this return and Forest Mere were a disappointment, It’s been a tough year for hospitality for sure, but I think this place would need to improve hugely to compete with the quality UK hotels that now offer high end spa experiences and much nicer pools, gardens, general facilities and experience, sophisticated service and food. It’s a matter of capital investment short term and margins/proposition in the long run.

Very relaxing staff friendly, clean, food delicious. However, every meal time the order was either the wrong dish or not followed any slight differences requested. If you need salt/pepper, extra bread, replacement food (as order not correct), or even a glass of wine you either wait until your food is cold or eaten or get up from the table 2 or 3 times to fund staff to prompt them. Despite being asked at reception and by 2 other staff about food allergies I was still served it. The tables were left with dirty plates and unclean tables and the chef burnt nearly every piece of toast we had. I can only presume they are either poorly trained or short staffed. Had a wonderful stay but meal times became a little stressful and finally a joke amongst diners

Myself and my friend went to Forest Mere for a 3 day spa break on Monday 17 th May . I would like to mention beauty therapists Susie and Louise saying how kind caring and professional they were during my treatments at the spa. The experience was so wonderful and as a nurse I left feeling relaxed refreshed and really happy. Thank you ladies and keep up the lovely experiences you are giving your clients.

Had a great 2 nights here. Our package included all meals and the service in the restaurant was brilliant. David in particular made us feel very welcome.

The surroundings are beautiful and the spa is relaxing. Good sized pool, steam room and hot tub. Outdoor hot tub is a nice touch.

We stayed in room four which surpassed expectations and the views were really beautiful.

We will definitely be returning. Than you to the restaurant staff in particular who were really warm and welcoming.
