Deserted and outdated. Nobody was there but it was still not possible to book extra treatments. The therapist was slack, rude and just trying to sell products. Lunch was the worst ever - a ‘superfood wrap’ which was lettuce and pea and an unrecognisable soup. The quiet relaxation room is just behind reception where people are chatting all the time. It was clean.

I booked a luxury pedicure treatment and it did not disappoint. Nor I might add did Rose my therapist. She was totally relaxed with what she was doing and a natural communicator. Whereas often it can appear that conversation is forced she was lovely. Thank you Rose for making my treatment that extra bit special

We booked a spa day at Old Thorns a couple of months ago to celebrate my sisters birthday which was in Jan this year.
Myself and my mum had the indulgence spa day whilst my sister had the luxury spa day.
It wasn’t great for a few reasons

1) We couldn’t have any alcohol on arrival which as this was a special occasion and supposed to be a relaxing day was what we wanted.

2) We had a meal booked for 1230 and treatments booked at 1345. My mum had brought a bottle of champagne to toast the occasion but our food didn’t come until 1315 meaning we had to rush our food as we had to get back into our robes ready for our treatments.

3) The facilities are a little disjointed and you don’t feel you can relax as having to keep getting changed in order to eat etc.

4) The spa changing rooms have no cubicles which didn’t bother me however my mum was not keen and so therefore had to change in the toilets.

My mum complained and we were offered another day complimentary although my mum initially wanted a refund as we felt the experience was not worth the money.

Our complimentary day was booked for today and thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt, I wish we hadn’t of bothered.

We went to the spa reception and we’re not made to feel very welcome at all. Everyone seemed miserable and not the greeting we would expect before a day of relaxation.
Other people were asked if they wanted a tour and if they knew where they were going but we were not given that courtesy.
Aaron showed us round on our first visit and wouldn’t even look at us this visit. It made us all feel very uncomfortable.

We had afternoon tea booked for 1300 and again this was late and didn’t come out until 1330 however we made sure we had later treatments this time so it wasn’t too much of an issue.

After our treatments we thought we would finish our day relaxing in the relaxation room but all you could hear was the reception staff making calls and talking to customers which was not at all relaxing. To top it off one of the therapists then opened the door and said very loudly “anyone in here from Charlottes party” and at this point there was 6 people in the room, one of which was asleep and was awakened by this.

The main thing that concerned me was the state of the spa and leisure facilities. Everything seemed old, dirty, dusty and tired. Definitely not the level of “luxury” you would expect for a spa day costing £130-£150 each!

I put off writing a review last time thinking it was just a one off but sadly it wasn’t.

There was another couple having a spa day and when we spoke to them in the changing rooms they too were not impressed and said they would not be returning.

Sadly a 40th birthday celebration was ruined (twice) and not the relaxing experience we were after.

Very disappointed. Save your money and book Nirvana Spa instead

Visited the old thorns spa on Wednesday 30th june 2021 with my sister and a friend for a spa day & it’s safe to say we will not be returning, after driving 60 minutes and looking forward to this for 2 months. From the minute we entered to the minute we left was a disappointment and awful experience. We spent over £500 between the 3 of us for the day and we left feeling more stressed then when we arrived. The spa staff was very rude and non attentive as though they could not be bothered, we had a foot ritual to start our day which was very rushed & as though the spa therapists did not want to be there with a poor attitude towards us as paying guests. We then chilled in the wellness spa for an hour before lunch, the spa is good but very dated & could do with a refresh & the heated beds was cold! We then went for lunch in the kings restaurant to be told they was having work done so would be seated in the champagne bar, we got led through a pitch black dingy room to get to the champagne bar as it was a quicker route as we was told by the waitress, she then sat us down & left us in this room for 15 minutes just the 3 of us in silence where you could hear a pin drop, we then had to ask for some water for the table, we then got told what we was having for lunch not asked, we had booked a spa package which included lunch but no one made us aware of what this included and if it was okay for us we just got told this is what we was having, we then sat in this silent room for a further 45 minutes waiting for our food which then made us late for our treatments to follow. After lunch we went for our 55 minute body massage and 25 minute facial which we had been looking forward to all day & words cannot even describe how shocking it was. The therapist didn’t talk us through our treatments, we was just left to get on the bed. My treatment was done with the main light on so no dimmed lighting expected for such relaxing treatments. The massage was dreadful, no flow to it what so ever, the therapist just rubbed my body in the same areas for such long periods of time it actually hurt like friction burns, and kept going over my bones not muscular areas, it felt as though they had just chucked someone in the room of the street and said do this massage not a trained massage therapist, my sister in the next room actually had to ask her therapist to stop the treatment it was so dreadful! My lady then said to me very rudely how I was not very chatty, may I add I work full time so wanted peace not to be judged or questioned why I wasn’t talking throughout my treatment! We then got onto the facial after such a bad massage I didn’t think it could get any worse but it did, my facial felt like it was being done by a 4 year old, creams and lotions was just snapped quite literally onto my skin not applied gently it being your face and no massage or delicatesse they was then removed with a wet flannel just rubber over my face again like a 4 year old was doing it, my sister and friend had the same experience with their treatments so we are actually wondering if these are trained beauticians/spa therapists, we have been to many spas and salon & it felt as though we was being pranked it was that awful. The therapist who treated my friend also took her mask off which by covid rules should not be done at any time! Throughout the whole 90 minutes we could not wait for this to end! This then ruined our day & killed the mood of wanting to relax or enjoy the rest of our spa day! We will not be returning and would not recommend to anyone wanting a nice spa day or experience.

I’ve just spent a night here with 2 friends and my goddaughter. The accommodation was lovely, very spacious and clean. Staff were very helpful even though it was extremely busy!
My only complaint is that we had problems booking for some spa treatments and we weren’t told that you had to book for the swimming pool!
A bit disappointing as we had a 12 year old with us who was looking forward to using it. We did go onto a waiting list and managed to get a 45 minute slot on Saturday but no such luck on the Sunday.
The pool was closed Saturday morning due to problems with the chlorine levels.
Otherwise a very enjoyable stay

My Girlfriend decided to book pre COVID a treat for my birthday however due to lockdown and hotel closure we decided to support the hotel / spa and continue to place hold the booking over the COVID period.

Now we have been told that if we wish to book in the summer at a time more convenient for work (girlfriend is a key worker) that we will need to dump up a surcharge of £160 for our stay.

This seems to be a company policy ( a dishonourable one for those that suck by you and continued to support you through COVID by continuing to hold placeholder booking which I’m sure help many hoteliers stay afloat). Having played the course with my golf society in the past I was looking forward to attending but sadly this leave a bad taste of being booted in the face especially seeing it’s after such a long lockdown period.

The company should bow its head in shame

My Mum and I had a spa day at the Old Thorns. The location of the Hotel is set in the idealic Hampshire countryside.
We were greatest in the Hotel reception which was stunning with a wall of photographs ans guided upstairs to the Spa.
The welcome at the Spa was very friendly.
We were guided around the Spa ans then given our Robe ans Slippers. We were able to use the pool and Spa (pre booked) for 45 mins and 90 mins respectfully. The pool was a lovely temperature ans the Spa was fabulous. The heated bed were so relaxing. The gym is vast and has a glorious view of the 1st Golf Tee.
We both had the pleasure of a 25 kin shoulder, neck ans back massages and then a 55 min facial. We would like to thank Emma and Megan for their friendliness and there expert treatments.
The lunch was a delicious soup, freshly made sandwiches and a devine orange chocolate cake in the Sports Bar. The manager (apologises we didn't catch your name) made us feel welcome and relaxed, and had no problem dealing with my Gluten Free request. Thankyou.
The relaxation room is beautiful and calm. It allowed me to unwind and pass a good hour just relaxing. My only concern was that there is an office nearby and on a few occasions noise could be heard from it.
I wish we had stayed the night to extend our experience and will definately look to do this on our next visit.
I would highly recommend this Spa and Hotel. Their website does not do the location or facilities justice!

Really happy with my 30 minute back, neck and shoulder massage. The masseuse was informative, checked pressure etc as expected and did a great job on my knots in the the that I had. The environment was calming and lovely. The covid safety measures were spot on and the tips and advice afterwards were helpful.

My only negative would be that it finished 5 mins early.
