On a clear day this has got to be the best views from Southwold and well worth the visit. It's not open all year round and I would recommend that you contact Tourist information for their opening times. There are many steps to climb and there are restrictions for young children. It's a must do!!

Met by our guide Graham, who was punctual, friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. After a brief discussion the 6 of us climbed the 92 stairs. Note, it is high and the stairs are well maintained but some may struggle. We went to the working deck for a further discussion before the very vertical stairs to the lighting area. Views great and... More

guides were delightful and very knowledgeable. Interesting bit of history and of course super views from the top. Stairs to the top are easy, don't let other reviews put you off, but not a good option for the unfit, infirm or those with a physical disability.

I have been coming to Southwold for over 30 years and this is the first time I have ever been up the lighthouse. It was a short and informative tour with an enthusiastic and interesting guide. The 92 steps are not too much hard work and you get a great view of the town and surrounding area. Well worth a... More

A very interesting visit and a great view of Southwold from the top. The stairs are very narrow and quite steep so access to the top is in small groups where you are given the spiel and then let down again as it would be positively dangerous to cross on the stairs. The last floor is reached by what is... More

We went up the Lighthouse yesterday with our two kids aged 9 and 6. It was a great way to spend half an hour and our guide Brad was excellent. Views from the top were fabulous and the information was really interesting. Everyone was really friendly including the lady that we bought the tickets from which really made it for... More

We arrived just as the tour had made it to the top so we raced up the many stairs to join them! If you need to take frequent rest stops I would say this is maybe not for you. It was an enjoyable tour because the guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Appropriate for children and adults alike, not too long... More

During the off-season, it is only possible to visit on Sat, Sun and Wed from 2-4pm. I tootled over at about 1.50, only to find that the 2pm tour was already full (folk must have been queuing up much earlier) and I had to buy a ticket for the 2.30 tour. Tours take around 30 mins. They are very informative... More

Well worth a visit with a friendly enthusiastic presentation. Lots of history provided and fab views - weather permitting. Must be able to climb stairs. Think the town could make it a local keep fit past time!
