A must see

Any trip to Svalbard without seeing the museum would be meaningless. The museum covers all aspects of Svalbard past and present. Very interesting!

The museum, which is situated in the University building, is an interesting museum concentrating on the history of Svalbard, particularly Longyearbyen, and the local wildlife. I don't really like to see stuffed animals but it was interesting to note how small the reindeer are close up, and what little chance we had of spotting an Arctic Fox which is about... More

This is a first class museum. It covers all aspects of Svalbard well, provides details without being "nerdy" and has a good balance between exhibits and text. The museum is tidy and well kept.

Dutch travellers go and see original buttons, hat and soles from 'Het Behouden Huys'. Yes, they have stuff from the 'Overwintering op Nova Zembla' their. Go and see for yourselves

A compact but very interesting museum detailing the history of Svalbard it's people industry and animal life. You need to visit if only for a short while so you can see the diversity of the island. Lots to read about and photograph.Enjoy.

Interesting place. As with many places in Longyearbyen you have to remove your shoes and either walk around in socks or use the "croc" type shoes that are provided. Lockers are provided for your shoes/boots and other belongings. There were many different displays to look at and learn about. We enjoyed the visit.
