In the Middle of the 'Square
Oct 2020
This is a classic 19th Century sculpture in the center or Public Square, made more accessible in recent years. I just wandered past it when I was a kid, but now I linger and admire the history and significance. This is what they did after the Civil War.

A site to see
Sep 2020
Very elaborate and interesting monument to at least make a pit stop by and see! Very intricate details and four sided so something to see on each side. Couldn't go inside due to Covid. Boo!

Visited this spot during our walk around the city. Today there are homeless sleeping on the site and the building to the monument is closed to visitors. You can walk around the outside and look around. Good walk.

This is a beautiful monument. It is definitely worth a quick stop. The building wasn't open when I was there and there isn't really a lot of information about the monument on the outside. I'm not sure what's inside the building.

Was just killing time before the football game. Driving around downtown and saw this monument. I had to park and get a closer look. This is one of the most amazing monuments I have ever seen. There are four statue configurations I guess you could say and the artwork on each one of them make you speechless. I am a bit of a military history nut and viewing these sculptures definitely painted a picture in my head. I have been to other war memorials and battlefields. This monument put many I have seen in Gettysburg to shame. Pure artwork.

Monument in downtown Cleveland
Dec 2019
This was an unexpected find as we were walking back from dinner and saw the Christmas lights and as we were walking around we found this. We were there at nighttime but it was still a awe inspiring monument to our men in uniform. Loved that it had 4 different statues of action scenes. Wish we could have gone inside but it was closed when were there. The Stain Glass windows looked cool from the outside and Im sure they were amazing with light shining through them inside. If I go back I want to walk inside.

Great monument to the soldiers and sailors
Sep 2019
I was only able to be on the outside of the monument as it was close on Monday (my day there).

But, just walking around and looking at the sculpture was really cool.

I wish I would have been able to go inside and see what else was offered.

A memorial to those who served in the Civil War
Jul 2019
We visited this beautiful Civil war monument while walking around this area. It's right in downtown Cleveland, just a few minutes from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 9,000 soldiers from Cuyahoga County perished in the Civil War, and this terrific monument honors their memory.

About:
Built in 1894, this Civil War monument contains bronze statues representing battles by the Artillery, Navy, Infantry and Cavalry. The bronze statues depict the war sequences. Inside the memorial building are a series of marble tablets listing 9,000 Civil War veterans that served with Cuyahoga County regiments . There are also 4 bronze sculptures inside and some exhibits used by soldiers in war and some related to Abraham Lincoln as well.
