Operated by the City of Canal Fulton and the Canal Fulton Heritage Society, the St. Helena III Canal Boat rides offer the public the chance to ride a replica cargo canal boat pulled by two work horses one mile south and back on the original Ohio & Erie Canal. The boat travels past the renovated McLaughlin Dry Dock and Lock 4. During the one hr ride, the crew steer with a rudder and poles while a historian on board provides facts and stories of life during Ohio’s canal era.

My sisters and i were going to Canton and was looking for something to do so we went on the internet and found this boat ride, a horse drawn boat pulled along the canal. You could not make reservations online unless it was a special event ride so we went there to find that you had to make reservations over... More

This little excursion exceeded our expectations. The boat ride was a full hour, with our guide providing narration and history of the Ohio Canal systems. The guide was very knowledgeable, and even played some period-themed music on his banjo and harmonica. He gave us the opportunity to climb on top the boat at one point to enjoy the view of... More

Relaxing and educational I would recommend this for all history buffs. The hour long tour doesn't go very far but is very relaxing. The guide tells of the development of the Ohio -Erie canal and it's effect on the local area and the state.

We were there in the rain. It is a covered boat so not a problem. The host on our boat was very informative of the area and the history of the canal. $8 gets you a nice scenic ride at 4 mile an hour down the canal to the next lock. Workers in period dress. The host also played harmonica... More

About a one hour very slow ride on a reproduction of a canal boat pulled by two horses. The narrator was knowledgably of both the area and canal boat operation. He was able to talk for the full hour without becoming boring or repeating himself. Kids got to look at the upper deck where the boat operators were and seemed... More

We went on a Sunday afternoon their July festival for the 2:30 barge ride. The tour guide was very good and talked for 3/4 of the approximate hour trip. Then he played banjo and harmonica at the same time. Water was as smooth as glass as we cruised at the top speed of 4 mph. Afterwards we went to one... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the canal boat ride. It was pulled by two horses, so we got the feel of how things used to be. The guide narrated thoughout the ride to tell us of the history of the town and the canal.

we had a fun time, at least i did because im a history buff, the kids were indifferent, they enjoyed the horses but became ancy with the slow canal boat. haha i tried to explain to them what a canal boat was, but they enjoyed the canal mules anyways. I wish the operating times were more convenient though
